I'm questioning whether or not to keep my 360

Post by Forlorn Drifter »

Right. My 360, my first and more than likely last Microsoft console. I've so far loved it, but I'm starting to question whether or not its worth keeping after this generation ends. Exclusives wise... its not too strong. The Original Mass Effect, Gears of War series, Halo (I no longer play it, got to where I couldn't stand it), EDF 2017 (Can be gotten on PS2, no?), Left 4 Dead games, (pointless to keep anyways at end of generation), Viva Pinata, and the stronger port of Bayonetta.

Really, is it worth it taking up the shelf space? Most of my games are multiplatform, and PS3 has so many more exclusives. There is so much I do want on it, and I always see more. Plus, a BC model could also play PS2...

On the other hand, I'm pretty invested in 360. 20 or so games, more coming every day. I've gained 100% on certain games on the system, and would hate to lose that. My friends would be aggrivated if I swapped over. The games cost more, and I've heard other games have inferior versions of the game.

What do you guys think?

I think the Xbox is the stronger console on the shmup and digital download fronts. I agree that most of its good games nowadays are multiplat, but there's a lot of good stuff on XBLA, even if a lot of that is updated ports of older games.

Interestingly enough, the 360 has far more exclusives than the PS3... Though that obviously doesn't mean they're all good ones.

Issues come in once this generation ends though. Many of the 360's exclusives are online-centric or are acquired via Xbox Live. I think the PS3 has much more in the way of single player exclusives on disc media.

Though as you mentioned, the 360 is where it's at for SHMUPS. I've actually been thinking of buying another Xbox just for that reason.

The 360 has plenty of exclusives, just a matter of whether they're ones you care about or not.

I'd say just to hang on to it, but personally I tend to be disinclined to get rid of things, so that plays into it.

This generation isn't over yet, so it's hard to make a fully informed determination. It's also hard to fully anticipate changes in taste - or in some respects, the "hidden jems" of the future.

I'd also say that we tend to treat the current and past generations differently. How many games does it take to justify owning a retro console to you now, and how big a chunk of the system's library do they really represent? Having the better ports tends to count for something there too, at least to me.

Are you considering it more because you want to trade it in towards a PS3 or something?

I'm retarded. I completely forgot about shmups. Hell, I could justify owning the console just for that and Gears!

Here's one question. The Bioshock series... should I wait to get it on PS3, or go ahead and get it on 360?

I asked this because I like to keep my shelves clean of systems I won't really play, and leads to less clutter in the house. That's why I've always looked into BC PS3's, that way I wouldn't have to have a PS2 and 3.

Woo, the fun of a doubtful mind.

I don't own one but keep it. I have sold my classic systems, ps2, dreamcast and regret it all the time. You don't know how it pisses me off to try to get my stuff again. I don't play with my snes stuff for about 2 or 3 month's and I just put it away but I will never sell it again. So in my opinion don't get rid of it. Just sell all your games you have beaten and start fresh with new games you thought you would not try. If you love 1st person shooters try games with 3rd person shooters, try sports games or rail shooters.

I've played both the PS3 and PC version of Bioshock 2, and I can firmly say that the PS3 version looks like shit. No idea about the Xbox version.

In general, I prefer the Xbox 360 controller for shooters, but it's really a "lesser of two evils" situation.

The console versions look like shit (they're 6-7 years old, what do you expect?). The 360 one is slightly better though (having owned both) but the PS3 version has extra challenges and such IIRC.

Just get it for whichever's controller you prefer I guess. If you have a decent PC, I do believe it supports the 360 gamepad so you may also consider that.

Thanks guys. It only takes one comment for these problems to turn around on me.

Now, in the future, I want to be able to render achievements unviewable and make the dashboard the old blades system. Ohh, homebrew, please become a reality.

Yeah, but this is just as big a problem with the PS3 too... Especially when you're playing Ico :(
