How long does it take to beat FF VII? (first play-through)

I think it took me in the 40-50 hours range the first time through with relatively little futzing around.

Disc 1-2 are the meat of the game, disc 3 is basically the final dungeon / sidequests. So yeah sounds like you're making some quick work out of this one.

This was also true of disc 4 of FF VIII and IX. I recall disc 1 of FF VII actually being longer than disc 2, or maybe there was just more world map time, so I spent more time on disc one. Who knows.

So who wishes more of FFVII took place in Midgard? Man I loved the vibe there.

Yeah, that place was the shit. Set the vibe for the whole game.

You do get to go back at the end, but it would have been cool to see more of that place. There were at least 8 sectors, and I think you only see like 3.

I remember it taking me like 4 hours to get out of Midgar my first playthrough. I was like, "Holy crap, I just left that city and its so small, this game is huge!!"

Ah yeah Midgar... man I'm tired, lol. I definitely remember going back, but yeah. I wish it took up a lot more of the game. I had the same experience though, might have had even more hours on my first playthrough in there back in the day so when I got out, it was crazy realizing that was just one area in the game. But nothing else was quite as cool as Midgar. It was like practically cyberpunk stuff almost.

Yeah thats quite true. It felt like the world of VII was about to become Cyberpunk, but Midgar was the place it was happening from. Everywhere else just felt like a village.

The music in Midgar was awesome too. It all had that Shinra feel. Plus, it was so strange to be blowing up buildings, cross-dressing, threatening people's manlihood... I was just like, "Wow, these characters are bitchin"

The first time I played FF7, I actually got bored after I got out of Midgar. IIRC, you go to Chocobo Ranch after first leaving Midgar, right? I was like, "What the hell is this?" And that's when I stopped playing. A few years later I started over and actually beat it. Midgar is definitely awesome, it would definitely be pretty cool if more of the game took place there.

Yeah, my first playthrough is 87 hours IIRC.

Well I'm about 11 hours in and I skimmed through a FAQ to find out where I am. Apparently I'm almost to disc 2.

Okay, 11 hours turned into 20 before I could go on to the next disc. I got lost, did some grinding along the way, and found a clue that got me back on the right track.

Anyway, Aeris died (thank goodness! she was my worst character).
