Re: A Steam console?
I think it would just be better to use a layover that could run on 'current' consoles. Most games on Steam could run on a 360/PS3 pretty well, assuming low settings. But, wouldn't, for balancing reasons, the PC players be limited in order to keep them in balance with those using the consolized version?

I don't know if this is good or bad, but I know I don't really care at all right now. I'm just going to save up for a new PC sometime this year and not touch the next gen consoles for awhile.

I would buy the shit out of a console made by Valve if it meant more first-party games by them.

Eventually, first-person shooters will fade out and then where will Valve be?

Re: A Steam console?
And what would one play on this console? A bunch of digital-only Western games? Can't I already do that on a PC? I think I'm gonna pass.
Re: A Steam console?
I'd buy a Steam Machine if it meant I didn't have to be connected to the Internet to play stuff.

Re: A Steam console?
I really want to look forward to it, but I'm afraid it would only go further in consolizing PC game. I want games made with full mouse movements in mind, and the kind of configurability that lends itself to PC gaming.
Worst than that, no matter how much it costs, it will always be cheaper to build it yourself or through ncix/newegg. If they wish to cater to those who aren't techsavvy, they risk losing the poweruser by watering down the games.
