Virtua Fighter: jumping phisics

Post by fredthezombie »

Ok the OG VF's are great except the jumping phisics are awful, any idea why they are the way they are? Can you use them to your advantage? Can you disable them? Preferably in the 32x and Saturn versions, because whenever I try to get my friends to play the game with me they do not take it seriously and end up jumping over me, over and over again, to piss me off.

Personally i think jumping mechanics of VF is not really meant to be used at all, I think its meant to be played more grounded. Watch some youtube clips of professional matches and youll see that most if not all, rarely uses the jumping mechs.

it was the early days of pseudo 3D fighters.

Although some fighters other than VF are guilty of the same.

but thankfully the trend did not continue.

Well i know for fact you can still jump in Tekken 5 and Soul Calibur V, but its goofy and doesnt really pay off at all. While its not floaty like like VF physics its still useless and dont really see many at all using it.

I'm not a huge fighting game fan, but I do like the Saturn Virtua Fighter/Fighting Vipers games. The nice thing about the floaty jump is that you can perform different jumping attacks based on when you time the attack, how high the jump is, etc. I don't know if other fighting games have mechanics like that.

A friend gave me his copy of Dead or Alive 3, and I don't enjoy it very much, at least in part because there isn't any way to jump (unless I'm missing it somehow).

Every time I jump in this game I get hit, so I stay on the floor :)

It just sucks cause I try to tell my friends to satay on the ground for the matches, but they decide to jump any way to piss me off, oh well I guess VF is out of the list for those friends of mine.

Haha. I was just playing Virtua Fighter 2 on Mega Drive with a friend and laughing at how stupid the jumping is. So bouncy and floaty. Also, the Ring Out's. Its not a damn wrestling game! Such a low quality game.
