What was the last movie you've seen?
Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
Hmm, I don't remember clearly. It's been a while since I've read the book. I guess since I knew he was alive in Lost World, I just assumed that it was meant to be unclear if he actually dies or not in the first book, kinda like how James Bond straight up dies at the end of From Russia With Love, but I don't remember the exact situation at the end of Jurassic Park.

I think Crichton made it pretty clear he was dead. He just brought the character back because he was really popular in the movie. At the end of the novel, he isn't on the helicopter leaving the island, and they talk about not being able to bury Malcolm and Hammond.
I mean, I guess technically Dennis Nedry isn't explicitly killed in the novel either, even though the last time we see him he's alone and holding his own intestines in his hands while his face is melting off or something.
All of a sudden I love limewater.
Yeah, I guess it is "open to interpretation", but in the novel, "dem dudes died". Not being on the helicopter and the events that transpired afterward doesn't give Malcolm much hope. That said, a movie on how Malcolm could have survived living on the island alone dodging bombs and dinosaurs could have made for an excellent sequel.
Chaos indeed.
Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
Well, seeing as how I just read Jurassic Park and I'm two thirds of the way through Lost World, I can confirm a couple of things.
Malcolm, at the end of the first book, is considered dead. They do make the remark that the Costa Rican government won't allow him (or Hammond) to be buried. He's brought back in the second book with the explanation that he was reported as dead, but he was actually only laid up in the hospital for the better part of a year.
Hammond is certainly dead. In his case, it wasn't ambiguous. They found his body after he'd broken his ankle and been half eaten by the compys. He doesn't return in Lost World. (Unless there's a zombie bit near the end.
)
The last time we see Dennis Nedry in the first book, its 100% clear that he's dead. His half eaten body is discovered by Robert Muldoon and Donald Gennaro.
As for Luke's question to me, it is a bit awkward that Malcolm returns. Its something I'm willing to overlook though because I like Malcolm.
I mean, that doesn't make it ok, but I don't mind it.

Hobo With a Shotgun.
Different from what I expected. It was good for what it was, but the contriving of the story somewhat put it down for me. I liked it, but there was something that kept it from being one I would buy on DVD. One or two parts though were so, so, sick. Not neccesarily the actual scene, as much as the idea.

Yeah, I saw it on Netflix about 2 months ago. It was so just ridiculously brutal and over the top.

Carnage
I liked it. Must see for people who love sarcastic humor. Movie might seem boring at first, but it's not. Much better than Roman Polanski's last movie...

Damn. I guess I forgot that part. To be honest, I think it's been 16-17 years since I read it.CFFJR wrote: The last time we see Dennis Nedry in the first book, its 100% clear that he's dead. His half eaten body is discovered by Robert Muldoon and Donald Gennaro.

A THOUSAND WORDS
God I hate/love Eddie Murphy. I think at some point in the nineties he literally gave up trying to do anything funny, but for all the laughter he gave me before then he gets a pass. He's got a whole lot of funny left in him, no doubt, and hopefully next year he will accept the invitation to host the Oscars. Murphy definitely has it in him to capture an audience, but fails to do so in A Thousand Words.
I think the script for this sat on shelves since 2006. It should have stayed on a shelf. There's really not much to say (no pun intended) other than the movie feels and plays like a bad Tyler Perry movie where product placement is more important than the story.
Not sure when the theatrical release is, not sure if there even will be a theatrical release as I haven't seen a single commercial for the movie, but you don't hire Eddie Murphy for a straight to dvd release.
Anyway, the jokes aren't really jokes; rather it's just Murphy reacting to things. He's great at reacting to things, but it gets a little tired after, oh fifteen or twenty minutes. Murphy is better than this, and I wouldn't spend money on watching this. It has appeal to hard core Murphy fans and people who liked LIAR LIAR, but won't appeal to people who care about their movie having a decent story.

So far it's been a great year for awful trailers. SMILEY.
