Haha! I love all sorts of old stuff too. I'm a big Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard fan. I really like alot of 60's and 70's psych stuff like Q65, Pink Floyd(especially Meddle to Ummugumma era) and Faust and more mod stuff like The Yardbirds, The Eyes and the Clique. I'm a huge Mavin Gaye fan and I get alot of crap for it. But anyone that's listened to "Here, My Dear" and tells me its not great just doesn't know!

I saw Skeletonwitch at the New England Metal Hardcore Fest, they where awesome, I even got the chance to meet the band at a bar.
Municipal Waste - saw them live the same day as Skeletonwitch, they are awesome live, I also got to meet the band plus Joel Grind of Toxic Holocaust, we went backstage and party (best concert ever)
awesome. merciless death is awesome. municipal waste played here a looooooooong time ago at a really shitty club and they fucking ruled. like 30 person circle pit CONSTANTLY. it was awesome. their new stuff is kinda just okay though compared to their older records, imo. i didn't realize that joel was still doing toxic holocaust, i think he is the dude who came on tour with a DE band called Oprichniki who played in my basement back in like 2000. i remember there was an oprickniki/TH split 7" but i refused to believe that they were the same band when i heard the new TH stuff.
last year on my birthday there was a house show in indy with Skeletonwitch, Toxic Holocaust, Phoenix Bodies and World Eater. best birthday ever.

Shit I completely forgot about FNM. I LOVE that band. I love every single one of their albums, all for different reasons. They're all so different! Plus I love Mr Bungle. If you haven't already you need to listen to California. It's a masterpiece.
Same here, I can't believe I forgot about them when I posted my list. Any of you guys listen to Tomahawk and Fantomas? Mr. Bungle's California is one of my top albums... real good stuff.
Speaking of Bungle, anyone here listen to Dog Fashion Disco or Polkadot Cadaver? They emulate Mr. Bungle's first album a bit, but definitely have their own style. They may even be a little more insane when it comes to lyrical content.

I didn't like the last Dillinger album much either. I prefer the old singer.
Also, have you ever listened to Buried Inside on Relapse Records? I had never heard of them, and then one day we were given the opportunity to open for them. They made us their bitches. Wow. Not to mention they were great guys, and said they liked our stuff as well. Hopefully this was sincere and not the obligatory shit you tell to bands you play with just to be nice. But it was a compliment nonetheless.
Glad to see this thread still going strong; lots of great music being listed. I haven't listened to Mr. Bungle in a long time but I think I'm due for a refresher course. And I've always wanted to try Godspeed You! Black Emperor.
Anyway, I listed my current favourite popular groups earlier but I thought I would put up a list of my top 5 western art music groups or solo artists.
In no order:
Vienna Philharmonic (perhaps the best orchestra I've heard in the world)
Julliard String Quartet (hearing them play changed my musical career)
Sviatoslav Richter (possibly the greatest pianist of the 20th century)
Glenn Gould (pianist; understood rhythm and clarity and independence better than any other)
London Philharmonic Orchestra (another orchestra to which all others must be compared, and resident kings of the city that can easily be described as the current center of art music)
I know western art music isn't for everyone. It requires such a specific kind of knowledge that I am surprised anyone besides lifelong artists like myelf listen to it at all. It is hardly consumer-friendly.
In reality, I almost never listen to recordings of orchestras...maybe once a year. I really only go to concerts. Music belongs in concert halls. Like all kinds of music (except possibly electronically synthesized), live is the only way to go, especially for acoustic instruments.
To make this post even longer...Please Note: I call it "western art music" instead of "classical music" because it is a better term. I could tell you why, but it would take too long. Thanks for reading!

Esthero? Nice. The first album is definitely the best one, everything else by her doesn't appeal to me. Doc and Esthero were pretty much a winning combination.
Anyway, this thread would be better if it was "Who are your Top 5 Musicians?" and not "Top 5 Bands".
