Favorite SEGA system

Post by fredthezombie »

Hey guys I may be saying the wrong thing in this forum section but I am and most likely always like Nintendo over SEGA but that's probably because I was a SNES kid. But recently I have become interested in the alternate side of video games during the console wars and I have accumulated all SEGA consoles(except for SG-1000, Nomad, and different models of hardware) I've been really into my SEGA CD, and have been obsessivly playing my newly acquired Saturn(which is quickly gaining my #1 SEGA console spot) What is your favorite SEGA console and why?

Dreamcast

It was such a forward thinking console with online capabilities, VMU units with mini-games and VGA support

It essentially offers everything the Saturn does, on a more powerful console. It would have had one of the greatest libraries of all time if it had had a longer lifespan

Honestly though, asking which Sega system was best is like saying, "which one of these gorgeous super models do you like best?"

Genesis or Dreamcast. I grew up with the Genesis and it is the home of a lot of my favourite games (Comix Zone is in my top 5, in fact it's one of only three or so console games in my top 10) but the Dreamcast is one of the most fun consoles I've ever played. I mostly love it for its arcade style games (including a huge amount of arcade ports, obviously), but it has some decent variety and great exclusives.

As an aside, while the Genesis is my favourite, games wise, ever since I bought my CDX I've had no use for my Genesis, so I actually gave it away to a friend.

Sega Saturn

I honestly thought there was no way I could ever want this console, but then I found RacketBoy. For me, this is the best retro console ever made. Lets think about this friends: The saturn is a (mostly) sprite based 32-bit powerhouse, making effective use of the CD platform, showcasing arcade style games; fighters, racers, shoot-em-ups. It even has plenty of awesome 3D titles, and a slew of adventure games as well. And the excellent audio. There's that too. The Dreamcast is in a very close second place.

My taste for the Saturn is like my taste in women: Quirky, adventurous, colorful, and slightly sadistic.

So you like your woman to be mixed race? :) No I gotcha I never would have thought I would get a Saturn myself but after watching Segata Sanshiro I find myself Chanting his name everywhere I go, but I think the Dreamcast probably would have been better than the Saturn "in my opinion" if it had the same support off let's say the PS2 which I love and hate, cause lets face it, The PS2 killed SEGA, and the budget to Shenmue :)

Sega Saturn!

Hands down with games like Panzer Dragoon,Magic Knight,Legend of Oasis good stuff really.

I bought one at launch only to have cold feet and return it the next day,PS1 stole my poor soul from ever being a fateful..But times have changed and Saturn has the most respectible shelf in my collection all 10 games equaling out to a small fortune,I commend you true soldier. 8)

Yes at first I thought the Saturn was a washed out Playstation, but then after seeing all these games I couldn't play because they were only on the saturn, my previous thoughts were destroyed. I still love my gigantic structure that is a "Genesis 2, CD 2, and 32X combined" It is the Mega Zord of my consoles. :)

Dreamcast. After finding Racketboy, I decided to research each of the major retro consoles, and the DC and SNES sounded like the best ones. I already owned the SNES, so I moved onto the best console of all time.

Saturn.

I don't own many games for it and I've never tried the "best" ones, but the Saturn is just so darn quirky and interesting. I love the arcade ports like House of the Dead, Virtua Cop, and Virtua Fighter 2.
