Yeah, it pulls a Contra and relies on the difficulty to pad out the length. Not that I'm complaining, one of the reasons I went retro was for the challenge. At least it's real difficulty, and not "predict the level layout" crap.
Skip to 3:25. That's the only time I've had to cheat on the entire console to beat a game. Yeah, I know, the footage is of the SNES version, but I couldn't find one of the GEN one.

35. Alien Storm

Ever want a Genesis title that you could just put in and relax and just pick up and PLAY? This game can definitely do that. A Sega arcade port, it's full of action, it's fast paced with standard scrolling and first person style stages. Very good for a quick play.
Plus, one of the greatest bits of Genesis music ever

Interesting, I never had much trouble with any part of Earthworm Jim. I'll admit it's a tough game though. I think the second one was harder though. The first time I beat EWJ 2 was actually a proud moment for me. I was with friends and they had given up on the game. I persisted though and they were basically seeing the rest of the game because of me and I beat it that same night and they all got to see the last stage and ending. I felt like I proved who was the best gamer in our groupGameMasterGuy wrote:Yeah, it pulls a Contra and relies on the difficulty to pad out the length. You get a continue every time you beat a level (so every two stages, basically...)ExedExes wrote:Not long because you get one life and no continues. Ends pretty fastGameMasterGuy wrote:33, Comix zone! Not exactly the longest game for the console, but it's a pretty fun one.

Haven't played the second, but I breezed through the first for the most part. It's just that at that one part, you can barely see what's below Jim, so you *need* to memorize the level, which takes up enough lives for you to have to restart the game a couple of times.Gamerforlife wrote:Interesting, I never had much trouble with any part of Earthworm Jim. Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine

If you only want one puzzle game for the Genesis. This is the one.
It comes from the fine pedigree that is compile and its puyo puyo series. But you dont need any of that to play this game.
Just connect colors and go for it.
Also what I like about this game is your opponents. Their cocky faces when they are winning and their utter defeat when you win!

Re: Let's name the Top 200 Genesis games
Since I've been on a dinosaur kick lately, lets go with:

The original Jurassic Park game was popular enough that they went ahead and made a sequel. Rampage Edition is Jurassic Park unplugged, and its completely freaking awesome.
It seems like without being tied to the movie's story for this game, they just decided to go nuts and fill it the brim with cool stuff. The pace is much faster than the original and all action. Grant is no longer limited to darts and concussive grenades, and is now sporting a full arsenal complete with a flamethrower that literally turns enemies into a pile of ash. And he needs it too, because everything in this game wants you dead.
Playing as the raptor is a joy as well, as the revamped controls (for both characters) loosen things up and help you feel free. The raptor has a couple of new moves, and it makes you feel like a death machine.
The music isn't as sharp as the first game, as its a bit more atmospheric, but its still good. The level design is excellent, including a cargo ship that Grant must escape before it sinks, and a high speed plains level (where you ride a Gallimimus as Grant or just run as the Raptor) where you must contend with Helicopters shooting missiles at you. And every area is just packed to the brim with aggressive enemies. The graphics are simply gorgeous (look at that shot with the T-rex above! Its even better in motion.), with sharp digitized sprites and some beautiful scrolling.
Its slick, fast paced, and fun as hell.
If you haven't played this, shut up and go do it right now.
