Work is done (for now)

Rob rules :D

Yes, I am glad the medals are worth a standard amount of points too. There's enough to do as it is :D

LOVE the tech bonus. It's a good challenge and should be a feature elsewhere.

You don't lose points with bombs. What I like in this game too is that you have other powerful attacks besides the bombs. I use them to cancel shots primarily.

Well guys, I went through and read the whole topic to catch up, and decided I want to join in on this!

I had some problems just getting the rom (I downloaded it from 5 or 6 different sites before I finally got one that worked. Don't know what that was all about), but I got started, and this game is fun as hell.

Here's my current score:

You can see my first score at the bottom there where I was screwing around and died awfully fast.

I'm not very good at shmups at all, so I doubt I'll give anybody competition, but I'll take a crack at it just the same.

@Exed Exes: Strikers 1999 (aka Strikers 1945 III) also featured boss tech bonuses iirc. It also has chaining medals, making it practically the ketsui of the Psikyo lineup.

Nice score too. I want to try out the other characters a bit, Rob looks like fun. That sales thread has me all over the place though.

Damn, I've only hit one tech bonus so far. I fricken' LOVE this game. I've been playing it for an hour straight. Still figuring out the game mechanics. Not sure why I randomly spout fire (special) on certain enemies. Is there some sort of multiplier that eventually gets activated?

Can someone explain how the magic gauge works besides the bomb count?

Only pet peeve is that every time you start over you're on a new level.

Yeah, a common Psikyo trait is that the first 4 levels can happen in any order.

You can hold down the shoot button to do a strong attack that takes up magic. The attack comes from your dragon, so the fire will come out of wherever he is when you hold shot.

The close range attack charges the meter.

Glad you are liking this as well. This really is a fine game.

Ah. I've only ever done Strikers I & II.

The Engrish voices are also a great feature (as they should be in any game)

The rotating stages remind me not only of Strikers, but of Aero Fighters too. That's also nice -- it's never really the same stage order that often.

So is this the "ExedExes" game that nobody knew about that you offered to us ?

A fun fact: Under Video System, the people that developed Aero Fighter/Sonic Wings 1&2 went on to form Psikyo!

I definitely wanted this game to be the Psikyo game of the month, thats for sure.

That's what I thought. Notice the score numbers/power ups look exactly the same in the AF series.

The AF games were great, and it only made sense to continue that tradition with Strikers 1945, and now this!

Alright. 2AM post. I will play all day tomorrow most likely. Got two tech bonuses. The hardest one to get is the plant guy. I started using a save state on him and no matter what I only got the bonus like 2 out of 50 times. Not sure if it's a timing or distance thing. I always wait and then it says "power down" when I dismount when the core is vulnerable.
This score was with no save state. Just my practices were.

This is going to be a competitive month.

This is why I was so excited for the score-based shooters months. I think this month will have a lot of participants, and we can all use each other as motivators to get better!
