Lunar Sega vs. Lunar PS

Post by IMJ »

The Lunar RPG's have been some of my favorites since I played them on the PSOne. I know that the original Lunar games on Sega are more desirable from a collector's point of view, but the truth is that the PSOne games and package are superior in every way.

Removing the novelty from the Sega releases, I'd take the PSOne versions anyday. How about you guys?

If you are interested in the differences between version, it was discussed quite a lot recently because of the Together Retro club. I didn't actually play much of the Sega CD version, but as I understand it about the only thing it has going for itself is the original story (which is changed, IMO a bit to the worse, although the PS story is still a good story it has some unpleasant inconsistencies and strange "uh?" moments, probably because it was "changed" from an existing story instead of "created" from scratch.

The original soundtrack may or may not be more to your liking (it's a different style).

But gameplay wise, the PS version has a huge advantage in the absence of random encounters, and is technically much better (graphics etc.)

I take both.

The Lunar series is on my top 10 list of all time favorite games. So much so that I own versions of it across multiple systems.

I prefer the SegaSaturn/PSX version of Lunar: Silver Star Story... but I prefer the SegaCD version of Lunar: Eternal Blue

I'm assuming they also tinkered with the story in the PS remake of Lunar 2?

It would be very cool if Sega CD Lunar 2 version didn't have random battles, that way I'd me quite inclined to playing both versions.

To find out more about the changes and such, you should watch the Making Of discs that are included with the PS versions.

I have both PS titles [full box sets], they're some of my proudest members of my collection.

Me too. That and Alundra and Elemental Gearbolt. If ever truly limited print and collectible games were made, it was by Workign Designs.
