I completely agree with this. But you probably could've guessed that from my whole "let's get to the point" attitude. hahaGamerforlife wrote:I think it's good to describe what the video and the game is all about. Also, one thing I dislike is when people use random background music. Please use the music from the game if there is any. If there is no music and you decide to use something to keep it from being totally silent, I think it wouldn't hurt to specify that the music is not actually from the game.

I agree. I'm not a big fan of people inserting random music into their videos. See when people do commentary on a video or play some song from some band they like, I feel like the video is more about YOU than the VIDEO GAME. I personally don't like that.harper wrote:Also, one thing I dislike is when people use random background music. Please use the music from the game if there is any. It takes a while to gather any sort of following. I'm still trying with my channel and it is finally gaining some momentum. We do have commentaries over our gameplay, but it is edited and not just straight, linear gameplay of a single game. Also, once you do get people watching, be prepared for the wonderful Youtube community. Just today I was informed that I am a 30-something douchebag who should quit playing retro games and get a job. That's right, I apparently have no job!

Haters are always the most vocal part of the net. Probably tons of people who love what you do, but don't commentRedifer wrote:It takes a while to gather any sort of following. I agree about doing something different but and this is a very big but, people only care about the classics. Look at any internet game series, the episodes with the most views are normally an episode based on a popular game, for example I was looking at a sseries last night and the most viewed episode was super metroid by a country mile.Gamerforlife wrote:Maybe focus on games that don't get much attention. One of my favorite games, the Red Star, has almost nothing on youtube. However, I can find a billion things on Zelda, Mario, etc. Walkthroughs and commentaries are all over youtube, so focusing on some seldom covered games might help.

Good point, a mix of classics and unknowns might be a good approach. You cater to a wide variety of gamers that wayGigaPepsiMan wrote:I agree about doing something different but and this is a very big but, people only care about the classics. Re: What do people want to see now a days on youtube?
I started a YouTube channel about a month ago, and it's been interesting to see where people go. I've got impressions of indie games, mainstream titles, PC, console, retro stuff, and so far it looks like the indie games have gotten the lion's share of the attention. It'll take a while to see what sort of viewing pattern evolves as the channel grows, but it's neat to watch, and I wasn't really expecting the indie games to do so well. (I use the word "well" loosely here :p ). I'm just focusing on more obscure stuff, because that's what I like most, so lots of indie stuff, and older console games that a lot of people may not remember (The Red Star, Omega Boost, The Ninja Warriors, etc.) It may also help your sanity to make the videos for yourself first and not worry about the rest. I'm taking a very self-indulgent approach to the sort of content I slap up on my channel, and from what I hear, that's what a lot of the popular channels do as well, and things just work out on their own.

I know this has nothing to do with the original post, I did read it. But I wanted to reply to the topic title in general. I really want to see more classic movies posted on YouTube. I love watching classics from the 80s & 90s on YouTube. And the drive-in flicks from the 70s.
