Yeh, yer also gonna want to get the Underwater Materia....that is if you decide to take on Emerald Weapon.

Underwater is not required for Emerald, you just need to be beefy enough to plow through in less than 20 minutes.

Granted I was pretty young when I pulled this off, but I remember this being a legendary boss fight for me and an awesome challenge I tackled. The first time I played the game I said screw the Chocobo breeding, so I just did it this way. I remember planning out so much... doing like a Gravity x4 attack for 9999 damage 4 times, then had the Fury status on Cloud from the get go so he could easily build up to Omnislash, and yeah. Totally beat him and Ruby without KOTR. 8)

First time I played the game I think I had 80 hours on it or something.

In my replays even with doing a lot of the sidequests and collecting, I think they were around 40-50. So yeah, 30-50 I'd say is the average probably.

FFVII is one of those games that can sometimes be painful to love due to the fanboys and all that, but I still think it's totally legit and awesome. I can even tear the game apart with the characters and crappy plot points sometimes, but still one of my favorite JRPG's for sure that I've replayed several times and will continue to do so.

I don't know why but when I play FF VII I'm reminded of Chrono Trigger...

They're both amazing? Yeah...I see it.

Though...being a FF fan. I still haven't played 6. I need to find that.

My first run through, not really getting extras, took me 43 hours.

My best runthough, maxing all materia multiple times and beating both extra weapons, took me 59 hours, but that was like my 7th playthrough.

As everyone said before it really depends on the amount of sidequests you complete, but I'd say it generally takes 30-40 hours. I think my first playthrough I was in the early 30's by the time I reached the end and started to work on the sidequests. Been years though.

Well I'm about 11 hours in and I skimmed through a FAQ to find out where I am. Apparently I'm almost to disc 2.

Disc 1-2 are the meat of the game, disc 3 is basically the final dungeon / sidequests. So yeah sounds like you're making some quick work out of this one.
