The Battletoads sequel was called Battlemaniacs even in Japan, so I wouldn't be surprised if that does happen over there.

17. Sonic 3D Blast (Flickies' Island in Japan)

I may get some flack for adding this game, as I understand that some fans hate it. I really don't care. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this game. I played it through to completion when I younger with all Chaos Emeralds and I enjoyed it. It's not a traditional Sonic game, but it's still fun. It's playable, it looks good and it sounds great. It's certainly not one of the best Sonic games of the era (most people would give that to Sonic & Knuckles and Sonic CD), but it's good and those of you who have played all the Sonic games over the years should know damn well that it is certainly NOT among the worst games in the franchise. I'd certainly rather play this game than Sonic 4: Episode 1 personally. I've enjoyed all of the Genesis entries in the Sonic franchise, including Sonic Spinball (which I may nominate later). There's also an upgraded Saturn/PC version of this game that I never tried

^The PC version is great. The graphics have a lot more colors and the sound is CD audio. The special stages are much less of a pain too.

I love 3DB. So much, I actually used italic tags. Usually I just go the lazier route and use asterisks before and after what I want to emphasize. The soundtrack is the best in the series, the gameplay, while not amazing, is still solid, and the graphics are amazing for the Genesis. Shame that the PC and Saturn ports had to ruin the soundtrack, though. At least those who played the 32 bit version got to hear a few of the songs in Sonic Adventure.

Yeah, I heard about the 32-bit versions having different music. Sounds likes they went and pulled a Mega Man X3 if you know what a mean. Shame, I quite like the Genesis version's soundtrack.

X3 at least had mediocre remixes in the remade versions, 3DB had a flat out new soundtrack that was nowhere near STH quality. X3 also had the addition of animated boss intros, whereas 3DB32B replaced the unique bonus stages with S2 rehashes.

Yeah, I saw a video of those new stages and I thought the same thing. I never liked the ones in S2 either. Oh well, on a more positive note:

My next nomination!

19. Rolling Thunder III

The only entry of the series to not be released as an arcade game, this was a Genesis exclusive. They finally let you shoot diagonally in this one. One of the best action games on the system and great for people who like stuff like the Shinobi games. Also, I don't know too many 16-bit games off the top of my head that let you be a badass spy like the Rolling Thunder games do. It's a cool series

You say like it's a bad thing? Gen and SNES were go to consoles for great shmups.

Trouble Shooters was an EXCELLENT choice. Fantastic game.

I'll add one that doesn't get a lot of a love.

Amazing Genesis graphics and lots of original ideas make this a title not to pass up. Great shmup.

Decent platformer by Namco, called Marvel Land in Japan.
