The girl was clearly uncomfortable and was laughing to play it off. I don't know how you could not pick up on that.
Or... Well, I won't say it.
Apparently Sexual Harrasment is the core of Fighting games
Re: Apparently Sexual Harrasment is the core of Fighting gam
We could argue for a while on the subject if she was laughing because she was uncomfortable or if she was just ok with it. Since none of us were there I don't think anyone can really say for sure. I don't really think she was into it, but she didn't seem to mind for what I watched. I didn't watch to the end (or super far into it) since his attitude and the jumpy video became really grating; but I didn't catch any "catches" in her voice or laugh from what I watched/heard. But I do not buy into the idea that playing it safe and not saying something is the way to go because it may make the situation uncomfortable for some. It would of been pretty easy to just say something like "Hey now, lets just play the game" and move on. She didn't need to stand up and get on a soap box to stand up for her self.
Either way I think we can all agree that his behavior and his statements are pretty much straight up awful. In my opinion he should be kicked off this "show" for being an embarrassment to gamers and humans instead of her for forfeiting the match out of disgust.
Edit: Oh and like the article I'm a little bothered that no one else said anything. What crap.

He's claiming that sexual harassment is a built in part of fighting games' culture? Bull. Shit. Trash talking, maybe, is a necessary component of the fighting game scene, but seriously, he has a completely indefensible argument. If you want a sandwich you order it without onions is his analogy, but he's actually suggesting you just throw away the sandwich and never eat another, otherwise he would say you can do without sexual harassment. He says it's like asking ball players to play without a ball. No, it's not. Sexual harassment is in no way a mandatory part of fighting competitions. In fact, it's absolutely unnecessary and undesirable. How can he spill such shit out of his mouth with a straight face. I get that they don't want to be told that Starcraft has a better community (I'm not sure I agree with that either), but seriously, shitty behaviour shouldn't be embraced as part of a culture. It's the frothy scum on the top of an otherwise great gaming scene, not the defining feature.

Anyone ever notice how a racist or a sexist never admits to being one? Complete bullshit. People like that will never change though.
I agree with all the sentiments here. Sexism isn't part of competitive gaming. Plain and simple. The most annoying thing is people throwing around the "PC" argument. If you say assy things, you are most certainly an ass. Why would a decent person ever want to treat someone that way? I just don't get it.
I didn't watch the video, but I read the article. She was probably laughing to avoid any further embarrassment or was gobsmacked by what he was saying.

The video on Kotaku does more for showing what a perv this guy is and isn't all jittery so it is watchable. Asking her to stand up and zooming in on her feet and ass...how gross.

And she tells him off a few times early on in this one. Glad to see she did say something
Still can't believe no one else does though! That really erks me.
I mean they are sitting there watching the feed and the chat they know what he is filming and not one of those other people stands up and makes him film something else or tries to take over the camera.

Yeah, Aris is a douche. I didn't hear about the guy until EVO, and while his commentary was amusing, if this is how he manages a community - dude needs to be let go.
He can say he is exercising his First Amendment Rights all he wants to, but the fact of the matter is, he isn't in some underground tournament with no sponsors and cameras. He's on Capcom's dime right now, so he needs to straighten the fuck up and learn to act like a god damned professional.
I curse like a sailor all the damn time, but I know when to take my forked tongue out and replace it with a silver tongue. It's not a super power - it's common sense. Aris is just too much of an idiot to have this ability.

I remember when not being a dick was called "being polite", not "being PC" and was generally something encouraged.

Indeed
I hate when you tell someone to not use slurs or to stop cussing etc and they respond as ignorantly as possible.
"Oh didn't know we had to be all PC in here"
What happen to just having manners?

No, just No... reality video game show, seriously?

One. Yes.
Two, Sexism in my community? (Or what used to be my community.) HELL NO.
But. On the other hand, trash talking has had a long and storied history in quite a few competitions. Anything you can say or do to throw your opponent off is "fair game". I can imagine this not being the case for StarCraft; your mind is already being stretched out to maximize your movements, you may not have a hand free to type "gg" or reach the hotkey. (Do RTS games have headsets?)
Now, it's late and I'm tired, and a little disgusted at the 2:07 mark after 30 seconds of comments about her bewbs. Clearly, we have a classy player, and a player who is either a creep or a sleaze. There is a distinction. (A creep will either stop prodding after winning, or switch to "gloat mode" -- a sleaze will then pile on the not-so-loving comments.)
