Nice. The series has been sadly dormant for a while now. Would have been nice if they had gone retro and called it SimCity 5000, but whatever.

Cool! I've always liked Sim City.

I really don't mind the 10 year gap between 4 and 5. Sim City 4 is still a great game, and assuming that 5 only builds on it, then after 5 comes out it will be hard to play 4 again. Might as well get all the playing you can out of 4 before the next one comes out. Know what I mean?

Don't get me wrong, I'll still play the original (mostly the SNES version) and SM2000 every now and then, but I haven't cared about 3000 since 4 came out. Will I care about 4 after 5 comes out?

DON'T DUMB IT DOWN, PLEASE! Simcity 4 was the hardest but it was by far the best in the series because such difficulty arose from the intrinsical mechanics of the game.

I'm paranoid after what they did with Railroad Tycoon and that shitty piece of shit called Societies.

I havent played 3 or 4, but I did just get 2000 on GoG and after playing for an hour remembered that you have to add water systems. I might get 5, Ive heard really good things about 4.

You can skip 3000 in my opinion. It was a nice visual step up from 2000, but the gameplay wasn't all that great. I was never really able to "get into" it. SM4 though, I think is a must play if you enjoy Sim City. It just feels like you can completely immerse yourself in the game. It has all the extra city building problems, but it doesn't get overly complicated. And the music will get stuck in your head!

Fast, since SM4 is so cheap these days, I suggest checking it out before getting 5. Go for the "Deluxe Edition" which includes the Rush Hour expansion pack. Personally, I'll probably wont be getting SM5 until it's bundled with an expansion pack. Or, if no expansions exist, I'll wait for the right price drop. I have no problem enjoying SM4 for a while longer.

Thanks Ziggy, I will throw it on my buy on the next steam sale list. Apparently someone gifted me Cities XL last week.

I think it was better than 2000 but the polishing also brought the snowball economics of the franchise to light, which is bad. It has the same problem as the previous titles: You can spam buildings and money will come in but it's cleaner.

Anyways, I think 4 is the way to go. By far one of the best economic games for any digital format.

Don't get it if you have a 64bit OS. Even in compatibility mode it'll crash and ruin saves. VM or 32bit partition only.

For fans of SimCity like games I'd really recommend the Tropico series. It's more focused on strategy and planning than building the city, but it's a whole lot of fun and has a generally good sense of humor.

^ Put it back on your wish list. I have 64-bit Win 7 and Sim City 4 runs perfectly fine. I don't even use any compatibility modes. I have the Deluxe Edition, if that matters, but I wouldn't recommend getting anything less anyway.
