Granted, he liked some of Whedon's other works like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but he is always honest about criticizing anything he doesn't like, regardless of who the director is, and he liked the movie

If you read many of the positive reviews the movie received, I doubt that every single one of those people had seen the show beforehand
I totally buy the argument. I've seen Serenity, but I have never seen an episode of Firefly. I was invited to watch it with a family who had watched the whole series. They loved it. I enjoyed it, but I at least enjoy most of the movies I watch, no matter how bad. I didn't find it to be anything special at all.

For what it's worth, I'm pretty sure I would really enjoy Firefly if I ever sat down and watched it.

Whaaaa? Fair enough. But who doesn't like Nathan Fillion?
He's one of the classiest celebrities I know of. Very polite, down to earth, and a little more geeky than you'd expect

I hear the argument on this forum from some that Serenity is only enjoyable if you've seen the show. I don't buy it. I think the distinction is between good film/great film. I think without seeing Firefly, Serenity is only good - it is much BETTER (and approaching greatness) if you've seen the show and know much more about the universe and character arcs. I didn't suggest that the film was ONLY enjoyable with background info, just that it was MORE enjoyable with it. The argument is essentially that if you've seen the show you might give Serenity 4/5, but if you haven't you might give it a 3/5. Neither is necessarily bad, but the film is clearly a superior experience if you've seen the show.

I guess I can agree with that. It's hard for me not to think of it as a great movie, but I had seen the show before seeing it so that certainly colors my perception of it I suppose

That's what initially got me on board with Castle. And it's nice that it keeps making Firefly callbacks (both overt and subtle).

Loved Firefly

was underwhelmed by Serenity. Guess I expected more.

FireFly must be a Star Wars spin-off, because the content of the past page or so seems to think so. Seriously guys, don't mean to mini-mod, but we should get back on topic.

So who else is upset about the fact that grape pop tarts seem to be gone? None at my grocery store for over a month. :(
