Obviously, Castlevania IV, Super Street Fighter II and Gradius IIII were an inside job of Sega to provide the SNES with totally terrible games that nobody wanted.

It's all a conspiracy. The same thing is still happened on the Wii! The Wii is actually more powerful than the PS3 and 360 combined, but companies like Konami and Capcom are making it look like it's not capable of HD content.

For the record, mods generally don't delete threads just because they make someone look bad...

BTW, Gradius III lags on the very own arcade. Hard. And it's probably the only way to beat some stages.

What did you expect? You claimed that Capcom and Konami were conspiring to hurt Nintendo in the early-mid 1990s by intentionally adding slowdown to their SNES games. You claimed this without evidence, other than finding a code in their games that also had other explanations.

Welcome to the internet, I guess.

Makes me think of "Turbo" buttons on PCs around the same time - which actually had the function of toggling between normal full speed for the CPU, and a fraction of the speed. Some programs - mostly games - based internal calculations on clock cycles. Something that ran find at 12Mhz, or 16Mhz, was basically in fast-forward if the CPU was 33Mhz, or 40Mhz (and so on).

While the SNES (or any console) wouldn't have to deal with varying spec, I'd suspect a lot more that programmers would be using that in a similar fashion - perhaps it was easier to make the CPU do nothing than to go rework other parts of their code to tweak how fast the game ran or something.
