I've bought from them a few times before; Smooth-sailing each time.

That site is awesome. I've always wondered where they get their inventory. The dumpster behind GameStop?

My copy of Dungeons & Dragons: Warriors of the Eternal Sun for Genesis has a P on it.

But I never knew what was up with it before now!

A store near my parents would write 'Used' on audio CDs and the back of the insert. They also taped up the cases and used the security things in the store. I bought a handful of discs cheap and didn't notice until I drove an hour home and discovered the mess. I got the discs clean, but wasn't happy about the writing on the booklets.

No such luck. :) They'll pay (very) small amounts through their site for used games, (and probably have other sources too). They split up some of their inventory when, for example, discs aren't up to spec.

The orphaned "B-grade" discs are often sold "as-is" in bulk lots. http://shop.bresoftware.com/as-is-video-game-discs.html

That P discussion is pretty interesting! You totally hooked me with the misleading title, EllertMichael, so you're doin' it right.

I had cat actually pee on one of my games.
Derailing again, one week ago at my library a woman returned an entire bag's worth of books that had been peed on by a cat. The librarian who handled them pointed out that they were sticky and possibly ruined, and the woman's response was, "They were like that when I checked them out."

Sorry lady. They weren't. But, because we're all about customer service, we have to clean them up ourselves anyway. Thanks.

You promptly suspended her library privileges and noted in her account, right?

Nope. In my library, your card is only locked (which means no checking out or requesting of books temporarily) for a handful of reasons: 1) it's been five years since your contact information has been updated and your registration has expired; 2) you have more than $5.00 in fines on your card; 3) you have a billed item (something that is more than a month overdue). In a case where a patron has returned a book in damaged condition they are usually held responsible for the replacement charge, but if they are adamant that they did not cause the damage themselves, we are supposed to give them the benefit of the doubt and absorb the financial loss.

In most cases people are being completely honest when they say they noticed the huge water stain/chunk of pages missing/massive highlighter abuse only after they took the book home and opened it. Nevertheless, you can really take advantage of libraries with soft customer service policies like mine, so please everybody, don't do it!

And the standard for notes in a patron's record is thus: you must be able to read the note out loud to the patron it's about without it causing offense.

So instead of a cathartic "Patron blatantly lied about not understanding due-dates to swindle us out of $15 of DVD fines so NO EXCUSES NEXT TIME!!!!," we have to type things like, "Patron understands DVD overdue charges 2/27/12"

Damaged and still damp books don't count as an equivalent of $5+ of fines? :?
