Well I tried capturing gameplay and doing game commentaries on modern games. However, no one subscribed to my channel. I then started to research and it looks like there is a fruitful community for a youtuber who is just getting started into doing gameplays of Retro games, and collecting Retro games.
I know I am whining right now, and all. I however have a pretty good idea finally what I want to do with my channel which is have a channel all about collecting rare/normal video games at all cost and doing full walkthroughs of each game i own. I know this idea has probably been done before. I have been searching for a show idea that I can use to attract audiences, but nothing seems to pop into my head.
I am pretty sure many people are done seeing the Halo, MW3, and battlefield commentators of the world. We get tired of seeing the entire gameplay over and over again. I think it would be a good idea to show full walkthroughs of older games so if people are stuck on a certain level they can get past it.
What do you guys think?
What do people want to see now a days on youtube?

People want funny. Your game reviews will probably be more popular if they're articulate, useful, and genuinely funny. Also make sure you have clear titles (like Culdacept Saga for XBOX 360 Review), advertise yourself well, and make sure to give yourself five stars

Walkthroughs for popular retro titles have been rehashed in similar fashion on YouTube. That's not to say you couldn't do that too, but you'd need a fresh approach if you hope to stand out.

Re: What do people want to see now a days on youtube?
Maybe focus on games that don't get much attention. One of my favorite games, the Red Star, has almost nothing on youtube. However, I can find a billion things on Zelda, Mario, etc. Walkthroughs and commentaries are all over youtube, so focusing on some seldom covered games might help.
Also, I love skilled based stuff. It's common to find walkthroughs, but harder to find something special like no damage runs, no death runs or 1cc runs of beat'em ups or shooters. Stay away from speed runs. Those things are all over the net already and I'm kind of sick of them and most speed runners clumsily run through a game. No damage, no death runs are more fun because there is more finesse
Is there a way you can make your videos funny and entertaining? Unique personalities stand out more amongst the tons of youtubers out there. Can you make your videos visually interesting in some way? That helps too. Also, you need an interesting youtube name. Here's a guy who I find entertaining who does reviews of independent music. He's a good example of everything I said in this paragraph

I would also pass on videos with commentary. Those things are everywhere and kind of annoying. It's hard to find videos on games now that DON'T have commentary. Some times I just want to see and HEAR a game, not someone else's voice

Yeah I'm not big on commentary and I hate it when I want to watch a video simply for gameplay footage, and I have to wait like 10 minutes to get to the actual gameplay because the person sits through the entire intro or goes through the whole menu first.Gamerforlife wrote:I would also pass on videos with commentary. A follow up on what Valkyrie-Favor said, I'm not really big on "funny" either actually, unless it's kind of genuinely funny. I'm not big on "cutesy" funny or "stupid" funny. But that's just me.
Maybe I'm not the best person to ask though, I don't usually watch videos for reviews and commentary, I just watch for gameply footage like I said before. And sometimes I'll watch videos people have made about their collection (that's where the "funny" came from).
Re: What do people want to see now a days on youtube?
Thanks so far for the suggestions. I plan on doing a lot of games that don't have a lot of footage on the web. My other channel kind of bombed and just has been a channel where I subscribe to and watch youtube videos.
I am currently researching ways to capture pure NES footage from the TV as I just bought flinstones: Surprise at dinosaur peak and would like to show gameplay of the whole game in its entirety.
Would a quick introduction be fine of me talking about what this game is and stuff and then get straight onto the gameplay? Do people want just pure gameplay now a days so they can pass a certain spot they are stuck on?

Personally I watch gameplay videos just to get an idea of what a game is like before I buy it (or just out of curiosity). Walkthroughs are another story, if I absolutely must use a walkthrough, I actually prefer to read one unless I'm hopelessly stuck. This of course is just my personal preference.
I think a verbal introduction would be perfectly fine as long as you have a good idea of what you want to say. It doesn't have to be scripted, just be confident and try not to say "uhhh" every two seconds.

Thanks. I am going to do that, and just do gameplay videos. I will do collection videos, and update videos as well. I've got some ideas.harper wrote:Armymanis wrote:Would a quick introduction be fine of me talking about what this game is and stuff and then get straight onto the gameplay? Well, here's some more opinions from meArmymanis wrote:Thanks so far for the suggestions. I plan on doing a lot of games that don't have a lot of footage on the web. My other channel kind of bombed and just has been a channel where I subscribe to and watch youtube videos.

It's perfectly fine to do an intro if you're doing a talking video, like a game review. If you're just going to show gameplay footage, I don't think it's necessary. You can actually say a lot in the video uploader comment section. I don't know about other people, but I always look at the uploader comments for a video to see what the user has to say about it. I get annoyed when a lot of youtubers don't put anything there. I think it's good to describe what the video and the game is all about. See I like to just get to the footage. Anything else I want to know I read in the comments
However, like I said before, if you want to do reviews, where you're expecting to talk, you should introduce yourself every time so people get used to your name and what you're about. You can say, "I'm retro gamer, your source for NES hidden gems with another review, etc." I'm just making that up. I'm sure you can do better
