A PS2 article would be nice

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Not until a good 2 years after launch. Even then it was still very expensive. Especially when you compare it to the DC. Which was £99 with a few games yet the PS2 was still £199. I remember when Sega tried to cash in on the DVD market, by giving away a DVD player with the DC just before the price drop. Just so that people didn't have the excuse of 'but the PS2 plays dvd's', Nobody bought it. Which is a shame because the DVD playback on the fatty PS2 is dire unless you had an RGB cable, yet in Sony's infinite wisdom, they decided that you can't view DVDs over RGB and you got the infamous green screen. WTF was that about?! The only way to get true playback was with DVD Region X which stopped the PS2 green screening. Hardly peripheral free dvd playback...

DVD playback on the PS2 slim is better with default cables though.

Uh chief, I've got an RGB cable on a "fatty" PS2, and it plays DVDs just fine. I've never gotten the green screen...

Sega was even trying to create a peripheral for the Dreamcast to play DVDs, but discontinued the console before they could release it. Xbox also played DVDs, but it came out a year later and required the remote to do anything. The Dreamcast had also been out for two years before the PS2 was released... But at least it didn't fail like the Gamecube DVD Player.

As for the GBA argument, the GBA also was released a year after PS2.
