If what has been pointed out doesn't affect the way you would play the game, then by all means enjoy it.
I like to know the flaws ahead of time, so I think pointing out the flaws is perfectly fine. I would be pissed if I had bought this personally, but that's just me. Shouldn't make anyone else regret their purchase

so tell me what is the advantage of playing on crt tate vs lcd tateZenErik wrote:Because playing the massive amount of verts the 360 has on a CRT in tate is awesome. You cannot question it. It's awesome.ninjainspandex wrote:why are people playing xbox 360 games on a sd tv? why not just buy the original dc game then why pay for an hd remake to play on a sd tv? and isnt it a hell of alot easier to tate a flat screen tv i think you can even buy wall mounts that pivot.
The real question is "why does G.rev screw everything up?"

No upscale lag for one.

Pointing out flaws is fine and needs to happen, but the (so far baseless) criticisms I'm seeing seem excessive. I haven't bought it yet, but unless they somehow made the game look like complete shit and render it unplayable I'm probably going to. I think G.rev makes awesome games, and I really respect their dedication to the niche that is the shmup genre. I'm more than willing to look past a few hiccups and support them.

Alright, got some pics of the 360 version running on a 4:3 set. You guys aren't going to like this. From Kiken's post on shmups:
So yes, the initial reports were true. Interwebz meltdown not averted. God help us all.Kiken wrote:Ok, here is a visual breakdown of how UD-HD's Arcade Mode appears when run on a traditional 4:3 television.
First, this is the default yoko presentation using Normal Screen from the 360's Display sub-menu:
Second, this is the tate presentation using Normal Screen from the 360's Display sub-menu:
Both of the above are in a 16:9 letterboxed format. I've personally been going with the tate view since I'm using a 20 inch screen, the play-area ends up being about 17 inches, which is acceptable (this is the screen-size I used to use with my DC when I was playing on an old VGA CRT monitor). However, if you're using a smaller SD TV, either of these is going to suck.
Third, this is the yoko presentation using anamorphic Wide Screen from the 360's Display sub-menu (the aspect ratio here is nearly 1:2):
Fourth, this is the tate presentation using anamorphic Wide Screen from the 360's Display sub-menu (the aspect ratio here is nearly 1:1):
Using anamorphic widescreen creates awkward results, but I guess the super thin yoko might be the only way to go for some of you.
All of this could easily be fixed with the inclusion of independent X and Y axis scalers. If those were available (instead of a general overscan adjust which increases both values simultaneously) then using anamorphic widescreen would fix any display issues as the image could then easily be tailored to fit the screen (widen the X-axis for yoko users and increase the Y-axis for tate users).

Baseless? Maybe it doesn't affect you directly, but I don't see how the problems mentioned are baseless.brunoafh wrote:Pointing out flaws is fine and needs to happen, but the (so far baseless) criticisms I'm seeing seem excessive. 50% MORE slowdown in TATE than in Yoko? This is unheard of to me, Raiden Project didn't even do this, and it was the first game to include TATE. So, since I play my verts on a rotated screen, I will not be having the same experience as you guys playing in Yoko. This is a HUGE problem for me, as I play shmups for the community experience.
Enemies not on the screen still shoot at you. This may seem minor, but its not, and that horizontal screen enemy cancelling is used in late game to avoid some enemies. This will no doubt make the game much harder.
The lack of boss music in the arrange mode is something, but not something I personally have an issue with.
Then there's the screen bs. Sure, I could settle for a 17" play area, but I don't feel I should have to, considering they already freakin released this game, and including a proper TATE should be standard in this niche genre.
All of these may seem like silly complaints to you, but they are purchase breakers for me. I'm not going to spend full retail price for a game that was already released properly once, from a company that gives little shit about what their customers think (Maromo-kun could have been a great scoring game if they had listened to any of their customer suggestions regarding the broken scoring system), a company that is very unlikely to patch something, even if we DO bitch about it.
Again, this is not supposed to be baseless "Aww its not perfect I dont want it". This is just so that people in the same position I am in will actually know what they are buying.
Plus, this bitching is the only thing that actually does get patches done, although its unlikely to happen with Grev. When Guwange had forced letterbox, or when Deathsmiles had inproper slowdown, people bitches, and the games were patched to perfection.
Re: G.Rev Bringing Under Defeat to PS3 and Xbox 360
I don't TATE, so this one is the deal breaker for me. Why they couldn't just do a perfect port is beyond me, and this seems like an inexcusable fuck up that will change the BASIC scoring and challenge of the game. It essentially means you can't compare DC and PS3/360 scores and that the PS3/360 port will be a SIGNIFICANTLY different experience than the original, even in Arcade mode. The fact that there are problems with the arrange mode is annoying as well, as that was the other incentive to buy the game.dunpeal2064 wrote:

I might have missed something, but I was under the assumption all of the mentioned issues were just hearsay until wip3outguy7 guy's post.dunpeal2064 wrote:Baseless? Maybe it doesn't affect you directly, but I don't see how the problems mentioned are baseless.
Yeah, I'm sure G.rev "doesn't give a shit" about us, with all their releasing games for a niche fanbase and supporting the Dreamcast after it's death shenanigans. Of course they give a shit about their customers. You have good reason to be frustrated but if the port really pisses you off that bad just ignore it and play the DC version as normal.a company that gives little shit about what their customers think
I understand the port got screwed up. I had not seen a list of all the problems but instead just a bunch of "oh no it's fucked up" posts followed by "oh nevermind it's okay" posts. I was waiting till all the chaos settled down and for a legit review before I decided whether or not I was going to buy.

Re: G.Rev Bringing Under Defeat to PS3 and Xbox 360
I guess from where I sit I'm just happy to be getting a physical shmup release on PS3 at this point. I'm not pissed that I bought this and I still hope it encourages other publishers to make more PS3 shmups.
That said, I never had the DC version so it's not like I'll have anything to compare it to anyway.
@dunpeal, what was the problem with Mamoru-kun's scoring system? I don't really pay close attention to that sort of thing, so I didn't know that there were any issues with it.
