One of my pet peeves is when people lump the original Game Boy and GBC into one entity (the "GameBoy/Color" or whatnot). Yeah I get that the hardware is similar and the GBC is backwards compatible, but both consoles have huge and very distinct game libraries and deserve to be analyzed separately on their own merits.
As far as decent games go, Lufia: The Legend Returns and Revelations: The Demon Slayer are both very under-appreciated JRPGs.

Bad wording on my part. Limitation was in terms of quality, in this case.noiseredux wrote:Jontendo wrote: I never realized how limited the GBC selection was!there were over 500 GBC games released between 1998 and 2001.
500+ games and we can barely eek out a "Top 10" that doesn't include ports and "DX"-ified titles from the previous system. Noting the quantity from which we have to select only highlights how limited the selection of quality titles is.
As a Game Boy fan I really wouldn't mind being wrong on this, but it doesn't look too promising.

Re: Top 50 Game Boy Color games
I'd take that as a challenge, but man I really don't want to encourage these list threads. I can only tell you that I've played a big bulk of those 500+ games for GBC, and definitely found many of them that I thought were great.Jontendo wrote: Bad wording on my part. Here's 36 for a start. I erased all the ports and stuff I could find, even though I think the likes of dragon warrior 3, super mario deluxe and the likes deserve to be on a list like this. Yeah, some of these are backwards compatible too, but I don't really see how that would exempt them from the list.

Re: Top 50 Game Boy Color games
Moral of the thread:
The Game Boy Color's main purpose in life was to show off tried and true titles in a colorized, portable format. The abundant "DX"s & ports defined the system this way and, with few exceptions (Shantae, Zelda Oracle series... uh...), there's not much to inspire otherwise (not that it's necessarily a bad thing).

And I couldn't disagree more! It's silly to separate the GB library from the GBC one because a large percentage of GBC games are playable on the older GB library. There are no other consoles that are so interconnected. That, added to the fact that the GBC only a couple dozen titles that were above mediocrity.
After I finish my personal top 100 NES/Famicom games list, I think I'm going to revise my top 25 GB/GBC list with an additional 25 games I didn't mention the first time around. I really do love the GB/GBC but again they are so interconnected that its silly to create two lists.

I've read your top 25, and I've based most of my GB/GBC purchases based from your list. I figure that there has to be more than 12 'gems' on that particular platform.Satoshi_Matrix wrote: After I finish my personal top 100 NES/Famicom games list, I think I'm going to revise my top 25 GB/GBC list with an additional 25 games I didn't mention the first time around. That and I can't find much else regarding a GBC recommendation list
