I didn't realize people keep track of their games! Is it because they are in storage or does the list help to keep it organized? I have a ton of games but they're all visible and neat so I never thought of keeping a list. Good idea for insurance purposes!

1. I'm somewhat obsessive-compulsive
2. Some are in storage, so when I look to add to my collection, I need to know what I have. (I can't remember them all, especially ones I haven't opened yet...)
3. I don't pirate, so everything is legit. There is a pride factor involved when looking at (a list of) your collection. I'd imagine that's not quite as important to someone if all their games are burns...games easily come and go in that instance.
4. To share and compare with friends.
5. Insurance...more of an afterthought really.

I used to have a really well organised text file with all my games.

But that was on the old computer, and I lost the file.

Now I have no idea, in fact I don't even know how many games I own. All I know is that it's near 200, probably 190 or so.
If each mistake being made is a new one, then progress is being made.

Sounds good to me...I've got to get going on a list, although I fear looking at other people's lists will make my wallet cry for mercy.

And if I may say so, I am also too legit to quit. 8)

I don't keep track of my games, much like the Doctor I have a very concise collection and pretty much know off the top of my head exactly what I have.

I don't keep track either. Many of the games I owned as a kid are sort of a dual-ownership between my little brother and myself. We're not really sure who owns what these days. Since we no longer live together, we're constantly swapping games, and the idea of ownership is nullified. I guess that's what happens when you're forced to share with someone throughout your childhood.

My collection on its own is decent, but together we have a formidable collection spanning from the NES era on down. WAY too much stuff to keep track of - though I do like the idea.

I am very surprised. I never would have thought so many people didn't keep track of their collections. Maybe I'm just obsessive compulsive or something but I really like keeping a list of what I have with different stats about genres, publishers, etc. Looks like I am definitely the minority.

When I go buy 2600 games, I always forget what I have, so I made a spreadsheet on google doc's. It worked out well, so I started doing all my games:

2600
TG-16
Lynx
Genesis
