Re: When handhelds could fit in your pockets...
I never really bring my PSP anywhere because of this and because I can't StreetPass with it. I have been able to sneak my 3DS and NGPC in there, though I do prefer the 3DS due to its thinness. Also, why is thinness not a word yet.
Insert clever quote here.

Re: When handhelds could fit in your pockets...
Thanks for all the input, you guys. It's fascinating and I don't know why!
I must admit that Hobie's "Eventually you get more stuff packed in there and it curves to conform to your ass" got a laugh out of me. I appreciated the long, serious dissertation.
I'd never seen a money clip until a year or so ago and I think they're pretty classy. I've considered getting one myself for low-necessities days.
It means you would be a superb pokémon trainer, because a good item bag is all-important.CFFJR wrote:Apparently I have good taste or sense for purses. I don't know what to make of it, heh.

I think the DS Lite fits quite well in pockets - clamshell design is very good for handhelds as it automatically protects the screen. The GBA SP is even better for that (although it being smaller makes it uncomfortable for me).
About wallets, I use coats with many pockets and usually don't leave home without a backpack. I recommend those for anyone (including ladies that want to ditch the purses - but I presume it won't go with many ladies sense of style).
Usually the wallet is in the backpack, otherwise I carry it in one of the jacket pockets. It isn't comfortable to sit on one, but it is manageable if necessary.
Ivo.

I only carry my 3DS when my wife and I go to the mall (streetpass is pretty cool). Even then, it's not in my pocket but in the Power A Exec Case.
Re: When handhelds could fit in your pockets...
I can fit both my DS lite and GBA SP into my pockets, but my problems with putting them in my pocket is that they're too heavy that it becomes uncomfortable (if I wasn't wearing a belt, they'd pull my pants down from time to time), and I worry that they'd get broken from the pressure if I sit down (this is a common problem with the old pre-smartphone nokias, the pressure usually results in cracked LCD screens)

The only one of my handhelds that doesn't fit into my jeans pockets is the game gear (even the original game boy fits just about), although I wouldn't want to put some of them in my pocket anyway. That PSP screen just seems like it'd be a scratch magnet.pepharytheworm wrote:I don't think it's the size for the reason they can't fit in your pants but people are wearing tight jeans now. The handhelds I own that can't fit in my pockets are the nomad and game gear. I can fit the Gameboy but its not comfortable.
Re: When handhelds could fit in your pockets...
I have some dresses that have pockets large enough for handhelds. But I'm also an art student so I ditched the purse in favor of a backpack.
I put the handhelds in their own carrying cases for extra protection and stick them in the front pocket of that backpack.
Though when I did carry purses I always made sure they'd be large enough to carry at least two handhelds along with everything else. But then the fact that I always wanted a set of pencils and a large sketchbook with me at all times made a backpack more convenient.

Key-Glyph wrote:This is really the only benefit of carrying a purse. In fact, I bought mine with two specific criteria in mind: 1) must fit books that are larger than mass market paperbacks, and 2) must fit chunky portable video game systems.
That and for smuggling food into a theater.
I recently went from a George Costanza wallet to a billfold, but I always keep my wallet in my front right pocket or jacket pocket. When weather permits I tend to always wear a sports coat when out, which has beig enough pockets for both handhelds and a wallet.
I don't do the back pocket wallet thing.

I don't use my back pockets at all, nothings comfortable in there imo, whether you're sitting down or not. My front right pocket is for my wallet, rail card and anything else along that lines (passport maybe), whilst the front left is for keys, mobile phone, pens, and pretty much anything else kinda small. I don't tend to carry portables in my trouser pockets either way, they go into my inside pocket on my coat or jacket. I love those pockets, they're huge, can hold loads of stuff, and being inside they're very unlikely to get stolen from tooKey-Glyph wrote:Despite the problem it's posing you fellas on this thread, I do wish I could carry everything in my pockets and ditch the bag. It can be such a hassle.
Actually, here's a weird question I've always wanted to ask of more dudes: how is it comfortable to keep your wallet in your back pocket? Does it get in the way? Aren't you afraid it's going to fly out or get stolen?
edit: For the record, I assume that when you guys are saying 'purse' you mean some kind of handbag right? Because for me, a purse is like a woman's wallet.

Another purse-user here. I find it more confortable to carry the keys, inhalers and wallet than just cramming everything in my pants and it also allows me to take my notepad and consoles with me so it's great
