Who does your "holy trinity" consist of?Funk, E wrote: That said, he was (is!) my favorite comedian, and the world is worse off for having lost him. And now the entire Holy Trinity of Comedy is dead, too. Sigh.

Despite the fact he represents my views as a whole fairly accurately, I didn't find him too funny. I like him though. Saw many HBO specials and saw him in Vegas in 2000. The observational humor guys (Carlin, Seinfeld) just don't crack me up (I did see Seinfeld live too, and he is funnier in stand-up IMO). My top 3 would have to be Dangerfield, Kinison, Black. Must be their emotional nature...
You've gotta put Bill Hicks as an honorable mention to that Holy Trinity, though. His stuff was very similar to Carlin's, and - in my opinion at least - just as good. They both did the social commentary thing to utter perfection.Funk, E wrote:Carlin, Lenny Bruce, Richard Pryor.

oh yeah definetly. But lets not forget we still have Doug Stanhopeglynnahab wrote:You've gotta put Bill Hicks as an honorable mention to that Holy Trinity, though. Shut up. To even to put Doug Stanhope on the same level on them is a joke. I'm not denying he's funny but still what has he contributed to comedy? Anyway I'm a big Carlin fan but it pisses me off how no one ever criticizes him for being so unoriginal as of late. Honestly since maybe the early 90's his act has degraded into borderline Lisa Lamponelli quality. HAHA FART JOKES! Either way it sort of fucked my day up since he was so amazing back in his A-dayarion wrote:oh yeah definetly. I personally don't find Bill Hicks funny in the SLIGHTEST. I watched his skit about drugs and evolution and it was the worst thing I have ever seen.
I think I would have rather watched a "blacks do this" and "whites do that" act instead of that trash.
What I liked about Carlin was that he didn't waste any time and was straight to the point, he had real wit and I actually enjoy listening to him rant - even if I don't agree with what he's saying. Of course, my favorites were his skits about fat people, airport security, religion, the ten commandments, etc.
