Dpad Awareness
Re: Dpad Awareness
I use the dpad in driving games still. I just never liked the feel of analog sticks in driving games. I have trouble varying my input I guess. I'm an all or nothing kind of guy haha.
Re: Dpad Awareness
I play very few current gen games. One of the ones I do play a bit is SF4. I only use the d-pad which, on the 360 controller, is the clunkiest piece of crap I've ever used. I could own all comers if I could use a Mega Drive 6 button controller (maybe).

Re: Dpad Awareness
As a few other have said, dpads are quite handy when playing shmups, they are much more accurate as far as precise small movements are concerned. I don't think the xbox360 dpad is all that great, and I love the analog stick (On mine at least, since its like new), but I still have to use the dpad, as the accuracy doesn't compare.
I would actually say that I would take a good dpad over a good stick, just because I know I would be better with the pad. I've played on them my whole life.

Re: Dpad Awareness
I have always been a d-pad kind of guy. The dreamcast was one of my favorite because of how defined it was, sure it was kinda sharp on the edges, but there were no missed inputs. Pretty common knowledge that the 360 one is the worst ever created.

I know! I'ts like whoever designed the thing had never used a control pad before! "It's wonderful! This 'Dee-Pad' seems to somehow control what happens on the screen! Lets go with that!"

Re: Dpad Awareness
I prefer the D-Pad in all games, except FPS. That's what I grew up with, so that's what's the most comfortable for me. Unfortunately, most modern D-Pads suck balls, which is a shame.
The best ones were the SNES, Saturn, original PS1, and Dual-Shock D-Pads.

Re: Dpad Awareness
Rayman Origins is one of the more recent games that is better used with a D-Pad.
During the more difficult stages, its a necessity.

I loved the D-pad on the Dreamcast. Controller motions were so damn smooth. I actually got better playing Cap vs SNK with that than any other fighter.jay_red wrote:I have always been a d-pad kind of guy. Controller shape is another thing entirely though. It's a little big for my fighting tastes.
And of course, I still prefer the Saturn pad if I have the choice (and I do now

Oh wow. I thought I was the only one who preferred the D-pad over analog sticks, guess not. The only analog sticks I've ever really liked are the ones on the Dreamcast and GameCube controllers. I will sometimes resort to using the PlayStation analog sticks though, only because that D-pad is so horrible. What were they thinking?!

What's bad about the Playstation D-Pad? It's always felt comfortable and responsive to me. And it feels better made than the cheap pieces of rubber they call D-Pads on XBox 360 or Dreamcast.BoneSnapDeez wrote:Oh wow.
