Yeah, I don't think prices are that bad for most consoles.

I agree with this big time. I like to keep up with XBLA/PSN releases and some of the indie scene (although I've fallen out of the loop), but these games hardly ever reach the glory that the 8/16bit era had. A lot of it more than often has to do with the art styles to me, we'll get pseudo 2D.5 games, or polygons, etc, when sprites have kind of become a lost art. It really all boils down to sprites to me, nothing will ever be as mesmerizing as late era SNES games or whatnot. Sure Braid and stuff might look pretty, but those kind of things just don't do it for me like older games do.

I don't think NES or SNES games are particularly expensive if we are talking about single carts. Sure, boxed prices are high but crappy cardboards are the real cause here.

That said, there's truly many more people looking for carts now, people that aren't really hardcore collectors and more than willing to pay a premiun to get some games.

NES games aren't so pricey. But SNES games seem to be climbing. And rarer systems that used to be cheap to get games for just because nobody knew about them, are getting more and more expensive I've noticed. It's definitely becoming harder to be a retro-game collector, but NES still seems to be in good shape, at least.
