Afterburner gba light?

Post by miked »

I was given a gba and decided this could be a fun project. Does anyone know if they can still be bought anywhere? Ive been searching for about an hour and cant find anything....

If I cant find one I will probably go with a halo light but Ive only found UK shops selling those and some pretty shady Hong Kong import stores that I wouldnt trust buying from. Anybody ever seen one of these that could tell me how it compares to the sp screen?

Thanks in advance

Well it's a frontlight, so it will never be as good as the backlight of the SP. A frontlight is, as the names suggests, infront of the screen, usually situated to the two sides of the screen. The backlight of the SP is behind the screen so spreads the light evenly over the entire viewing area. The Afterburner is baisically like soldering two of those worm light things to both sides of the screen, it does work, but it will never be as good as Nintendo's effort. That being said, if you have the time, motivation and money it would be a great little project to keep you busy on a Sunday afternoon, and would certainly add more functionality to the original GBA. Just don't expect it to replace the sensation of a SP.

Yeah this is pretty much just a hobby thing that I wanna try. I like taking crap apart lol

On the wikipedia gba page it says that the first sp models were frontlit and the later models released at the same time as the micro were backlit. To tell the difference between the two the frontlit has a light on/off button and the backlit has a brightness level button with the choice of "normal" and "bright" settings.

From what ive been reading the afterburner had pretty much the same quality of the frontlit sp model. Ive never even played a backlit one but I always thought the other one looked pretty sweet.......

And I found a guy selling halo lights on ebay for $20 plus 10 shipping, but that seems pretty high. The halo light is supposed to be like the afterburner but with an easy install. :(

The search continues

uh dude the average SP uses a front light, only the rerelease had a blacklight which was released alongside the GBM
