Yes it is possible. And don't you dare let them say it's not. Some employees will do whatever they can to make you stick with it, even if it means switching to another game. Other's will give you a death glare as they hand you your pre-order cash. Not all will, but some might.

But yeah, go for it.

Let me explain a little why they don't like to give returns on pre-orders

The way the gamestop system works is the employee who you cancel your pre-order with gets a -1 pre-order, which will take away one of the pre-orders they got that week. All hourly associates other than the ASM get hours dictated by the amount of drivers they get. So to be a little nicer try to do it with the employee you purchased it with or the store manager who it won't count against.

Okay, that is just a mark against the employee, which really is not their fault if a customer changes their mind. Not a reason to cancel a Pre-Order if not received yet, what is the store policy on this? I would ask for a Manager or take it to the next level.

The Good
On the plus, I found some under five dollar PS2 games CIB! There were actually quite a few complete under five dollar games in the basket, my local Gamestops are no longer tossing out PS2 cases! Guess the complaint to Corporate finally worked, hopefully Wii games won't see the same case strip fate later on.

I don't know if anyone has posted this before, but I saw a sign at my local gamestop saying all gamecube games will be gone by April, so get them now.

edit: hurrrr, guess I should go back a page.

Just had my first "issue" with GameStop today. I'm actually writing this within minutes of arriving home. As always, I go straight to the counter and ask for the game I'm looking for, cib.

Today I wanted a used copy of Sonic Generations. "No used copies, but I do have a new one". Sure, sign me up I said, as the difference was a matter of dollars. Game, in the bag with receipt, and I'm on my happy way home. Until I get home.

The game isn't sealed, it actually has a price sticker for Homefornt for 17.99 on it. The manual is a mess as well. The receipt reads "opened new merchandise may be exchanged for the identical item within 30 days, blah blah blah".

Well it doesn't say "blah blah blah", but I'm definitely returning this for a sealed copy, if GameStop even sells sealed copies.

Sorry to hear that Luke, though I'm surprised you didn't ask to inspect the game before leaving, after reading this thread.

They do sell sealed copies, but only around launch/pre-order in my experience. Otherwise in a few weeks they've all been unsealed. :?

Oh, it's just a game and I know things will work out in the end, but the real sting is that I "know" the guy who sold me the game. Perhaps that why it was bagged so quickly. Before checking out, my eye was caught by JURASSIC PARK on the 360, and his words were "as a friend, I can not let you even think about buying that pee oh ess".

I should have been more diligent with my game inspection, but since they were EB Games, I've never really had something like this happen. The last time I can remember being disappointed in the store was when I pre ordered a game in full, and I was told I would have to wait at least a day to pick it up.

It's no biggie, but as far as new games go, I'll probably switch back to Best Buy for my purchases.

The beginnings of another rant
Remeber the Two CIB copies of Cubivore I got a while back and the huge rant? Another rant begins anew on another very uncommon Gamecube game, not G Force but Gotcha Force! Because of the Gotcha Force thread, I became nuts yesterday on obtaining this game. One thing that is really nice about Gamestop is the online site shows which stores have which games in stock.

The Bad
I check the online site, no Gamestops close by had this game, some gamestops no longer carry Gamecube and PS2 games, the remaining stock gets shipped out to other stores. There was one tempting me forty miles away, planned on driving the next morning.

The Ugly
Before taking the drive, I decided to call before they closed last night. Turns out it was only a disc, a yellow envelope disc only Gamecube game. I called again after hours and talked to the night person and confirmed the bad news. The dodes there have TOSSED OUT ALL GAMECUBE CASES!
CRTGAMER wrote:Even though GBA games are no longer accepted as tradeins and Gamecube games will soon get the ax, the online site still lists the remaining stock.
The Good
My local Gamestop store manager ordered a CIB version from another gamestop 96 miles away. I was concerned the other store might have thought the game in question was G Force and not Gotcha Force. I know the manager confirmed the SKU over the phone. I checked the site a couple hours later, the store is no longer listed as having one. Game is on the way! 8)

The Gamestop site still has a list of Gameboy Advance games too, I found an obscure GBA cart that harkens back to a Commodore 64 rock game. The manager also ordered that one in for me too. Story to follow back on the Video Game Finds thread.

Edit Update
GBA Cart no longer appears on the site either, the only store that WAS within a hundred miles. :D

I probably already mentioned this in the thread, but I had the old switcharoo done to me as well when buying a new game. I got in the car and it was a reseal.

I'm pretty sure that's false advertising, and isn't legal. If they are telling you that you're buying something brand-new, and you get it used and open, that's just a plain lie. If it bothers you, I'd call up the manager and ask for a new copy. If that doesn't work, District Manager.
