Is the Neo Geo more powerful than the Super Nintendo?
Re: Is the Neo Geo more powerful than the Super Nintendo?
Well like I said, I played through Star Ocean (S-DD1) and never experiences any loading waits. Perhaps the problem isn't the S-DD1, maybe it's just that the people that programmed SFA2 didn't do it efficiently. Or maybe it's just that the game actually has to load a TON of stuff for a fight that there's no way around a few second wait to load all the data.

It had to decompress a ton of stuff. Although I don't know enough to say if it's decompressing graphics or sound, or both. One thing we can agree on is that it was unnecessary, partly because it made the game almost unplayable, and more importantly - Gundam Wing: Endless Duel shows that the SNES can do a 2D fighter with huge, well-animated sprites without the help of an additional chip.

If DKC was on the NeoGeo, it will take up more memory than the SNES, due to compression, but it would be able to show more animated objects at a faster framerate. The SNES game is limited to 14 animated objects, excluding bananas and HUD, at 20 fps. It's not a CPU issue, but a memory/bandwidth issue. Of the 16kB of v-ram for sprite cells, 14kB are divided into 14 animation slots, with the last 2kB used for HUD sprites and bananas. It is limited to 20 fps, because it doesn't have enough v-blank time to update more than 5 slots in one 60fps frame.

I'm still not convinced.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?
