PS2 was getting RPGs for 8 years. PS3 isn't even 6 years old yet, so for now that argument doesn't hold any water. PS3 will catch up, probably won't quite surpass it though.
Where are my pics, pepharytheworm? I didn't put that list together from the kindness of my heart.
PS3 Titles Worth Playing
Re: PS3 Titles Worth Playing
So a guy creates a list of rpgs for PS3, and then everyone bitches that despite being a long list, it doesn't break triple digits? You know, some people claim the SNES has lots of fighting games in the US, but only about 44 made it to the US. And no matter how one slices it, 77 still isn't something to shake a stick at. So instead of complaining, let us look at how much fun we can have as RPG fans.

This is an election year. Playing nice and being reasonable just aren't in the cards.Ack wrote:So a guy creates a list of rpgs for PS3, and then everyone bitches that despite being a long list, it doesn't break triple digits? Heh. I think the amount of quality RPGs WORTH PLAYING, as the thread title specifies, has dropped considerably.

you don't count, though. There's only about a half-dozen games in the world that you even like.ZenErik wrote:Heh. I think the amount of quality RPGs WORTH PLAYING, as the thread title specifies, has dropped considerably.

If only that were true. My gaming collection would be a whole lot cheaper. Still hoping for another Lunar sequel.

Here, as long as we're flinging arbitrary statements around: half of everything you like sucks, and I'm not going to tell you which half.

Actually, I created this list with titles that made it to the NA/PAL regions in mind, though I didn't really specify it. Since its RPGs we're talking about, its not really an option for me to import games from Japan unless there was an english option or patch.
That really cuts down the number of titles.

I bought a PS3 hoping it would be an JRPG Juggernaut but it's really not. I think the whole genre sort of took a nap this gen, after running roughshod over the PS2 for so long. Sure, you can list off a few dozen, but I don't think I could ever recomend Star Ocean the Last Hope, Ar Tonelico Quahog: Indecipherable Faux Latin Gibberish, or Hyper Dimension Neptunia in good faith. That said, on the PS3 I think Resonance of Fate and Eternal Sonata are your best bets. Tales of Graces f is pretty good based on the demo I played. Really nifty combat system on display there, so glad we're finally getting a Team Destiny game from that series!
FF XIII is probably worth playing just so you can have an opinion on it. I personally hate it, but a lot of people loved it too. I think the debates I've had about it made it one of the more worthwhile games I'v played this gen.
Really, the best part of the PS3 is that I can play way more PS1 RPGS without worrying about filling up my memory card!
Western RPGs are pretty easy to find this gen and if you don't know which ones are good, you probably haven't been paying much attention to mainstream gaming for the last few years.
That said, anything Bio Ware or Bugthesda gets a lot of praise.
