Do you store your game consoles when not in use?
More and more I find myself boxing up my systems and only bringing them out every once in a while if/when I feel like playing them. I used to always have everything set up nicely but now I find I prefer to store them when not in use. I guess it's in part because I don't play them nearly as much. Not so much asking if it's normal or anything, just seeing if anybody else has done this/started doing this.
Besides, now I don't have to dust them nearly as often.

Pretty much, except putting things away made me realize how much I don't use them so I started getting rid of stuff. haha

I'd likely get rid of a lot of stuff if I wasn't nostalgic and if I wasn't worried about regretting it in the future.harper wrote:Pretty much, except putting things away made me realize how much I don't use them so I started getting rid of stuff. haha

Re: Do you store your game consoles when not in use?
I'm trying to be a little more practical than I have been in the past. I tend to go overboard sometimes, so I wanted to get rid of systems I don't really play so I won't be tempted to buy games for it just because they're there. The only one I got rid of that I grew up with with my snes, and while that sounds like a sin, I just didn't have much of an attachment to it. But that will probably be one of the harder systems to replace in the future, since the games and consoles themselves are pretty expensive and it's becoming easier to find super nintendos that are discolored. So I hope I don't regret that decision until I at least find a job.

I've always had trouble with that. I haven't really felt the urge to buy anything since I've been storing my stuff though. A bit strange but it works for me. I've saved quite a bit of money over the last month. It's amazing how much a game here and there adds up.harper wrote:I'm trying to be a little more practical than I have been in the past. Nah, I don't store them.
I have everything hooked up all at once. It creates one hell of a pile of wires, but considering the number of systems its pretty well organized.
I get sudden urges to play certain games at random times, and I don't want to have to set up a system each time I have a whim.

Heres the 3 setups I have in my house two are setup and one is on standby.
My Living Room "Master setup"-Up and running
43in Plasma
MW2 360 (250 gig,Hdmi)
Oxbox (Component)
My Room has two setups including the "stored" getup-
Setup 1a
37in Vizio Lcd
PS2 Slim (svideo)
GCN w/gba player (svideo)
Setup 1b nothing is constantly connected to condense clutter.
Tall standing cabint w/shutting doors (storage area)
20in Vizio Lcd
NES,SNES,PS1 slim,Saturn and 2 Oxboxes-Shelved
I have an AV switch w/4slots and svideo.I keep all AV cables wrapped neatly with twisty ties and connected to the TV so I can just plug n play!
Then I have a small surge protector so I dont have to move the cabint every time I need power
So having setup 1b all wired up would be to messy were as the master setup and setup 1a only have 2 systems per area much cleaner.
Plus it only takes a few minutes to setup my retro stuff.

If you can see the future while remembering the past, you may just have control of the present.

Look at my game room. The unused systems that aren't connected are stacked neatly on a shelf. Everything else is organized and practically begs you to play....speaking of which...

Re: Do you store your game consoles when not in use?
I just keep everything hooked up. Granted I don't have a ton of systems like some of the guys on here, but I just pick up whatever I want to play and that usually means a SNES game, then a PS3 game, then N64. Whatever.
Old HDTV - NES, SNES, PS1, PS2, N64, PS3, VCR!
Flat HDTV that dad watches all the time - Wii! I don't get to play it too much, actually. Dad's watching Pawn Stars, or Mom's doing yoga, or my sister is Just Dancing, or something. Hard to get any Sky Crawlers in.
