SNES Vertical Line Discussion
Re: SNES Vertical Line Discussion
You can find reports of every video encoder having the lines.

Re: SNES Vertical Line Discussion
So every SNES shows these lines? I wonder if its more noticable now because the tech is getting older or the displays are getting better? I don't understand why the SNES has the lines while the Genesis for example doesn't. This tech was released around the same time period, was Nintendo just so cheap with their tech that they let this pass while Sega didn't? Are there any updates on the tests that were mentioned earlier in this thread? I never had a SNES back in the day but problems like this make it harder for me to get into this system, which stinks. I've posted before in this thread and it seems to have died a bit, come on guys, and girls! The vertical line problem must be acknowledged and adressed or else I cannot say that the SNES is the best system of all time! (Not that I would but this REALLY hurts its case)
Its all good.

Re: SNES Vertical Line Discussion
The Genesis video encoder(s) might not have a vertical line problem, but it has a list of other problems. When the model 2 rolled around, it's like Sega decided to use whatever encoder they could find because you have the chance of finding 4 (that I know of) different encoders in a model 2, one of them being super shitty.

Re: SNES Vertical Line Discussion
I think some of the issue might be due to things in the overscan area which would be off the edge or ignored by a CRT.

Re: SNES Vertical Line Discussion
I had mostly forgotten about the vertical line until I recently played through Mega Man X. The first section of Sigma's stage makes it very apparent. When you are jumping on the floating propeller platforms, the vertical line is very bright.
It's interesting that the vertical line is a bright line on dark scenes, and a dark line on bright scenes.

Who is still using the Nintendo-brand RF adaptor that originally came with the system?
Re: SNES Vertical Line Discussion
I have one, but I have never tried it. It would just be the composite signal modulated to RF, so whatever you see in the composite image would be there, except worse looking.

As I noted in my post where I made tests, the problem didn't exist for me via RF, svideo, or on my a CRT. It only happened with composite on my plasma with the later revisions of the console.
