getting a new 72-pin won't fix my problem nes
Alright, so this last weekend I decided to whip my old nes out and clean the entire thing, all games, controllers, console, everything. So I went to work, I totally fixed and cleaned the board, and the 72-pin connector. I bent and cleaned all of the pins to make it work better. I cleaned one of my games and connected to my nes. Everything was naked, so no cartridge or case on my nes, just the bare board and game. The game worked perfectly I was so happy. Now I finally get around to assembling the nes, I get it all together put the same exact game in, and the screen goes white! I even try different games to get it to work, but nothing. I try different power cords, video cords, and I check the pin connector again. I check to see if maybe I knocked out any capacitors or resistors; the board looks perfectly fine. I am stumped I have no idea what is wrong with it. I am pleading for help!
Any help is so appreciated.

Disable the NES-10.
Lookup tutorials on how to do this. its very easy. all you do is clip pin 4 and ideally put it to ground.
the keyword is disable, not destroy.

You may have bent the pins too much. Try it without pressing the cart down.

Yeah i havent disabled the lockout chip. I guess i'll try that.
I never press the cart down because I know I don't need to. All pins are touching.Zing wrote:You may have bent the pins too much. Try it without pressing the cart down.

Alright I knocked out the 4th pin to stop the lockout chip from working. Still there is just a solid white screen. Any other suggestions from anybody?Satoshi_Matrix wrote:Disable the NES-10.

Put a new 72-pin connector in it, then start being stumped.
I know you bent the pins back and it looks good, but it may not BE good.

Clean it. Including the new one. Or buy a TopLoader.

No the thing is I cleaned the whole thing including the connector, and it was working (that meant the 72 pin connector was good). Then AFTER I assemble it it stops working. I am stumping right now.lwcook wrote:Put a new 72-pin connector in it, then start being stumped.

This is the same thing that happens on Famicom when all of the pins aren't making a solid connection. It has to be in the connector.

Re: getting a new 72-pin won't fix my problem nes
The lockout only causes the NES to go into a reset loop if it doesn't communicate with the one in the cart. Disabling it will simply keep your system from flashing. Any other solid or scrambled screens means either not all of the pins are making contact or something is fried. Garbage on screen means the graphics data isn't coming across properly, but the game still runs. A solid screen means the program data isn't coming across and the game program crashed.
Make sure that you got the tab for the front of the tray over the front edge of the board so it is sitting properly. If it isn't that, pull the 72 pin back off the main board, check, clean, and try agian.
