It's funny you should say that, because on my screen there's really not a lot of spare room on under your avatar on that post.

I don't often look directly at the avatar, but while I'm reading the post the corner of my eye gets the gist of the colors and shape.

Flake, you're a little bit of an exception. Since I know you exist, I generally associate to your username more than your avatar, or lack there of. I'm talking more about forums you don't frequent. You're scanning through the pages and see a lack of an avatar and your mind thinks they're new.

The 6 kb is a bit restricting. I'm still having problems trying to get this picture at a size less than that. I've used the lowest settings on just about every converter I could find, and it still wont go less than 6kb.

Upload it elsewhere and link off-site. That's the easiest way to get around the size restriction.

Yep. My pretty Lenneth avatar is over 6 kb and I'm not willing to sacrifice color depth, so I liked to Photobucket. The size restriction's pretty easy to get around.

Yeah, if the size restriction is a problem then just upload your Avatar to something like Photobucket.

The size limitation is a little tough though. Honestly, I think 80x80 is just a tad to small. Don't get me wrong, I hate veiwing forums that have HUGE avatars and sigs that are larger than post fields, but I think our avatars could be slightly larger. On the default skin, if they were allowed to be 90x90 or 100x100, it looks like it would still fit the width. And it's not that much bigger, so it shouldn't hurt mobile browsers, but at the same time give you a little more to work with. I've had trouble getting things to look right in the 80x80 restriction, which is why my avatar is unchanged most of the time.

That being said, if the avatar restrictions here stayed the same, I'd be perfectly happy. I just think they could be slightly larger.
