So I'm thinking of selling my XB360 stuff for a PC or laptop

I'm still waiting for 2TB SSDs to become affordable. The ones on Newegg would require me to get a second mortgage.

I'll buy an SSD once I can get a 500gb for 100 bucks.MrPopo wrote:I'm still waiting for 2TB SSDs to become affordable. The ones on Newegg would require me to get a second mortgage.
Anyways, if you're just looking to keep it under 1k, this is the rig I built (and will be receiving on Tuesday)

Are you planning on overclocking your CPU, or is that liquid cooling just there to make you feel good about your new computer? Also, I've never heard of "XtremeGear" or "PMPO," which is an immediate warning sign for me (especially with power supplies.)RyaNtheSlayA wrote:I'll buy an SSD once I can get a 500gb for 100 bucks.MrPopo wrote:I'm still waiting for 2TB SSDs to become affordable. That came off a bit rude.sabrage wrote:Are you planning on overclocking your CPU, or is that liquid cooling just there to make you feel good about your new computer? How is the laptop in terms of heat? Can you have it plugged in and on your lap or does it become too hot?J T wrote: I use a Lenovo Y570 and I love it.

I use a cooling pad. The temps are fine during normal use, and it even has a switch on the front that you can use to turn off the GPU and run graphics off the Intel chip instead, to conserve energy.gtmtnbiker wrote:How is the laptop in terms of heat? My system's core temperature range from about 35-45 degrees Celsius during normal use, and roughly double that during a heavy round of gaming (keep in mind these readings are done with a cooling pad on and the high end GPU on).
It does get pretty warm when gaming, but not painfully hot. Using laptops on your lap without a cooling pad is a risk for fertility problems though, so I would advise using a cooling pad regardless, if you think you might ever want to have children.

This was my experience with the short time I had with the Y560.J T wrote:I use a cooling pad. In general, laptops get a bit toasty for lap use, especially gaming ones. (IMO)

I would personally wait for the A10 "Trinity" APU from AMD to come out this spring / summer. It has dedicated video built into the CPU itself and it should be more than enough to play most modern games around medium with a < 1440 x 900 resolution, and if you want more power you can hybrid Crossfire it with a real video card as well (Though only certain chipsets work in Xfire with an APU). The CPU + Motherboard together shouldn't cost over $250.

Well, if you don't plan on overclocking it is expressly a waste of money, so I was wondering what your reasoning was.RyaNtheSlayA wrote:That came off a bit rude. No, it's not there to make me feel good or cool about it. It came with the case. I plan on selling it off to a friend or something.

You seriously don't need to come off so rude about this. It was free with the case I chose. You don't have to be an ass about it.It came with the case. I plan on selling it off to a friend or something.
