thx dude. I felt pretty sure I remembered doing that when going from one PS3 to another.

besides copying one save at a time, I thought (hoped) there was an easier backup that just copies all your saves at once. No?
You can use the PS3 backup utility under System Settings, but that backs up EVERYTHING -- saves, photos, videos, downloaded games..and you would use the restore function to put it all back.

It's the only way to keep your non-copyable save games as far as i know -- but the catch is that you must restore to the exact same PS3. If you so much as format the hard drive, you won't be able to restore those particular saves.

You can keep copy-protected saves by using the Data Transfer Utility (also under System Settings), thankfully.

That may make the game more challenging but what if your PS3 breaks/crashes to a non-repairable state? You backed up saves from all the other games... except for those you can't copy. All those hours you put in were for naught.
Take out the hard drive, drop it in your new one. And yes, if your hard drive fails, you're screwed, but this is Demon's Souls we're talking about here.
I think you just perfectly summed up why I refuse to play Demon's Souls or Dark Souls. That, "Screw you gamers, we're hardcore" mentality behind those games is a big turn off to me. I know people have put many, many hours into Demon's Souls hunting down all those trophies and not giving people an easy way to back up their save data is just dickish, but that seems to be the design philosophy behind those games. They are sadistic and they appeal to masochistic gamers

Fair complaints, but the Souls games satisfy my masochistic needs and then some.

As for the trophies, they are linked to your PSN account. You don't lose them. And like I said before, you can keep copy-protected save files via data transfer utility. I had a fat PS3 die on me, and didn't lose my trophies (which was very refreshing because I have the platinum for Demon's Souls), and was able to grab my Demon's Souls save file and put it on a new PS3. The file is erased from the machine you transfer it from however. It's not that they don't want you to have access to your file, they just don't want you making copies and sharing it, which is reasonable.

Personally, I feel that it's nobody's business what I do with my save file. That's just my humble opinion, but I think every player is entitled to do whatever they want with their saves, so copy lock is just something I find rather offensive. I'm concerned what happens if your hard drive breaks down, then you can't even do a transfer. That's why I like back ups of my saves. It's not so much the trophies themselves I'm concerned about. I already know those are tied to your account, it's losing all the levels, equipment, etc. that you've built up in a game like that on the road to getting those trophies. That's a lot of blood, sweat and tears so to speak
