TG-16 Region Mod
I was wondering if it is possible to mod a US TG-16 to play JP Hu-Cards, and if so, does anyone offer a service to do so?
Re: TG-16 Region Mod
It is, but I believe you have to rewire the pins. It isn't a simple matter of just putting a chip in or anything.

So once you mod it, it can no longer play US cards?
Re: TG-16 Region Mod
I believe you have to add a switch to go between the different connector jumps you set up. There isn't a whole lot of info out there that I have seen. You can also shell out a lot of cash and get a converter (if you find one)http://www.estarland.com/TurboGrafx.product.31618.html
Re: TG-16 Region Mod
I lucked out when I bought a TG16 lot via Ebay. Console, controller, a dozen common games... and a region converter cart. No Japanese games were included, but I tracked some down at decent prices.
While Googling just what this region converter was I ran across alternatives ways around this. It's been a few years, but the one that I remember may have used a cannibalized cartridge slot, and for sure lots of soldering ribbon wire, so a DIY solution is possible.

sign up at www.pcenginefx.com several people over there are excellent at modding and can offer you the service. If you want to attempt it yourself it is a little tricky, there are a lot of solder points and you have to do quite a bit of surgery to your system. Member BlueBMW developed a new compact region mod switch on pcb which is lot better then using those bulky switches.

Link on my forum in the console reference section that might help - this is all you do to make a TurboGrafx region free.

If you can get an 8PDT switch, that's the best solution too. You're swapping connections between a few sets of pins for USA or Jap mode; quite an easy mod.

Re: TG-16 Region Mod
I know I'm gonna sound like a doofus, but doing this requires disconnecting the wires and splitting them? I have never done any type of modding, and I don't want to screw it up. Is there anyone who is well versed in this type of work? If so, what would it cost do it?
