Yup, the Tapwave Zodiac was released, and I nearly bought one, but ended up getting a GBA SP instead. Power wise it was about on par with a 32x.

Then the PSP was on the horizon...

John's Collecting DVDs are pretty great actually. I have learned a ton of information about really obscure consoles from watching them. I highly recommend them if you are serious about learning or collecting lots of random consoles & games.

Just a note, the CDX can only function as a CD player off batteries. You can't play games that way.
