Spinners and Trackballs for MAME

Post by Erik_Twice »

So, how do you get one to run for a MAME cabinet/PC? I have found that JAMMA trackballs can be had for cheap, for around 20 euro and playing Centipede and Marble Madness is more than worth that price.

Can JAMMA trackballs can be used on a PC without much of a hassle? What would you need? I also heard you can hack a mouse, which is always something I could do.

Spinners are kind of a problem because they are much less common. But alas, it's the only way to play Tempest and Warlords so it's something to keep in mind. The 2600 has paddles but I have been told than adaptors that work with it are rare and Megadrive ones don't work for paddles. I once tried to hack a mouse but to get a reliable spinner you really need to put work in it so I prefer something simpler if it's availble.

Any input on this?

EDIT: Found a trackball with PS2 port for 28 euro including shipping. What do you think? It's here:
