I never get to talk about retro gaming with my friends, (save for 1 or 2) mostly because I don't even try. I mean yes they'd think it was neat, but the majority of them (and my school) are all brogamers so it'd be pointless to talk about anything else.

That's why this here site is pretty neat.

im a huge retro gamer but i cant stand systems before my time (nes) you would never find me playing the atari 2600 or colecovision, i just dont get them i know they are great systems and games and plenty of people enjoy them but i didnt grow up with them and they seem to abstract to me. i know there are plenty of exceptions but generally people often only enjoy the systems and games they grew up with.

Well today I had pretty much the entire bus making assumptions about my sexuality when I started talking about Zelda. Then I was asked about why I'm playing a Neo-Geo Pocket if it doesn't have 3D graphics.
Being a 13 year-old retrogamer isn't easy.

If you hate Zelda, you are not a manly man.

This. Remember to tell them this next time it comes up on the bus. Or hand them a copy of Zelda 2, and say "Beat that, pussies."

And I'm going to agree with a lot of what's already been said about young kids and teens. It does seem to me that the younger kids will gravitate to the older games if given a chance. But all teenagers are not "bro gamers".

I have a couple of younger male cousins who are about that age and they and I grew up watching my aunt play Super Mario 3 and Adventure Island on the NES. I'm sure they have a shooting game or too, but I know they're also into platformers and puzzle games, so not all is lost.

Also, I was in my local game store a while ago and saw a teenager with what I assume was his younger brother. They were browsing around the Gen, 64, Dreamcast, and PS1 section when the younger boy picked up a Dreamcast game and turned to his brother and asked, "What about this one?" The older boy looked at it and said, "Oh yeah. That's a good one!" I believe they bought that copy of Chu Chu Rocket. It made my heart glad.

Two of my female friends also seem to be more into the older gens. One of them lives in Minnesota and was complaining to me on Facebook about how sad it was that Goldeneye didn't really look so hot on her new TV. We had a very nice discussion about cables and CRTs and she was very happy with the information.

The other one lives near by and has a Wii (her brother has at least a PS2 and PS3). She is using it mostly for the dancing games, but wants a few more. I remember trying to help her in figuring out what kind of games she liked to play. Most things that involve anything 3D seem to be out.

"I didn't even make it out of that one room in that game with the kid with the spiky hair!"

"You know, the one with all the Disney characters...."
"Oh, Kingdom Hearts?"
"Yes! That's the one! I couldn't get out of the room."
"Did you even make it off of the island?"
"I don't know. I think so. The last thing I remember is Alice in Wonderland."
"(Ouch. Didn't even make it past the first planet) Okay then. No action RPG's for you."

Her younger brother has a PS3 but she says she doesn't have the coordination for that many buttons. She told me she went looking for their old NES, because she wanted to go back to the simplicity of a directional pad and 2 buttons, but alas, it was not where she thought it would be She does like fighting, light gun, and racing games though, so until she finds it (or I go over there and help her) she can play those with her brother. Plus, I got her Zack and Wiki for Christmas. She should like that I think I'll get her House of the Dead 2 and 3. She'd the type of girl who likes shooting zombie s*&%.

I refuse to let them touch my gold cartridges. I could always hand them my Ambassader Programed 3DS, but that would be even worse.

It's complicated to debate these issues...

I have a 14 year old godson and he's a total sony fanboy who loves FPS and little more besides that, but he's coming around

One of the key points here i think is age... i guess that, when kids get a little older and they gain they're independence from the opinions of others, maybe they'll come around and give a little credit to the systems from the past... maybe that's me beeing too optimistic!

One of the problems is the fact that we live in a chewing gum society, things have to be quick and sometimes when you're starting it's already yesterday news, chew it and throw it away...

Another important point to be made, wich has been debated already, is the fact that everything is so easy to get nowadays... the internet came tochange life in general as we knew it and since everything is so easy to get, you can't really appreciate anything. For me, buying a console, buying a game, to this day, is like a spiritual experience. But i don't know that many people who can appreciate that... who can understand the value of having something original, something that you actally had to work to have it... download from the internet... a console like dreamcast? Emulate it on the PC... buy old games for the Mega Drive (genesis)? Download the roms... that's the type of thinking that you get from most people nowadays...

At least that much i was able to pass through to my godson, no piracy! All originals... even if it's all COD
