Re: Games Beaten 2012
I still plan to get Duke Forever at some point. I guess I want to make up my own mind.

Duke Nukem Forver - The Doctor Who Cloned Me - PC
The campaign DLC for DNF was fairly average, the idea of Doctor Proton (The original enemy for Duke Nukem) returning was a great idea, however his animation and a lot of the game feels very low budget. I enjoyed it about the same as I did the main game, which is pretty average but not as bad as people make out.
The final boss was a massive let down, considering how much slack the game got for its driving scenes there are a lot in the game, and the final boss is a driving scene.
I just started playing Duke Nukem Forever. I also think it is a very average game that was treated like it is garbage. It's actually kind of fun, just nothing special. It's weird though. All of the humor and gameplay feels pretty dated, though the graphics are modern. It makes Duke feel kind of like a has-been, even though the game attempts to make him out as the coolest guy ever.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution (1/12)
Mirror's Edge (1/18)
Medal of Honor [2010] (1/23)
Puzzle Agent 2 (2/2)
Dinner Date (2/15)
What a pretentious pile of horse shit. It's every bit as tedious and boring as you would expect from a game that is about getting stood up on a date. I don't know what I was even thinking by buying this game. I could have better spent my money on convincing someone to kick me in the balls.

Must be a really lousy game.

Re: Games Beaten 2012
It is a really lousy game. It's supposed to be artistic, and though I'm a fan of the art movement in gaming/interactive media, this was a piss poor example of it in my estimation. It's like a videogame rendition of My Dinner With Andre, only without Andre, so there's not really anything to hold your interest whatsoever.

The game will always play out the same story. It takes roughly 20 minutes to complete. You supposedly play the role of your character's subconscious mind, although part of what irritates me is that the game developer doesn't really seem to understand what the subconscious is and it's just a tacked on rationalization for the fact that you can't do much of anything in this game. The gameplay is sort of like quick time events, that don't require you to be quick. You see a bunch of floating letters on the screen if you press them, your character will perform an action from a limited set of actions. You can look at the clock, tap your finger on the table, stretch your arms, look to the left, eat some food, drink some wine, and other things one does when biding their time waiting for something to happen. You really play the role of volition over inconsequential actions rather than a true subconscious. You don't actually subtly influence the character's behavior through primal urges and historically relevant relationship patterns, like one would expect from a subconscious.
Essentially the player is being stood up by the game (spoiler: the game, like your date, never shows up). There's nothing for you to do other than fidget with pointless controls that do not affect the story whatsoever. You simply listen to your character's internal monologue, which becomes increasingly whiny and despairing as he realizes that his date is standing him up. It feels very much like being stood up for a date actually, so I guess it succeeds in that regard. I played this game because I thought they might actually do something interesting with that, but it really never amounted to much at all other than listening to some bloke prattle on about his insecurities.

Duke is a has been, and the game knows it. Just listen to the last line of this video.J T wrote:I just started playing Duke Nukem Forever. If I still feel like playing more after the main campaign, I might consider the DLC, but I doubt I'll want to play much more after that.

Good god that sounds boring.J T wrote:why dinner date sucks
Its almost like they set out to see if the player is willing to sit through it.

January
1- From Dust - PSN
2- Resident Evil Director's Cut - PS1
3- Star Wars: Episode I: The Phantom Menace - PS1
February
4- Deadly Premonition - Xbox 360
Wow, just... wow. You don't see too many games like this coming out. I don't have much time right now to type something out but in short: A great experience.
I loved the game so much I ordered a copy for my PS3 (and I won't have to borrow the game anymore
