Which arcades would you get if you had money and space?

Post by Erik_Twice »

But be realisitic! It isn't fun if you can just treat them as roms in your crystal palace. Think about stuff you could reasonably put into a garage if you could dedicate it to just arcade games and stuff you could buy if

Since cabs take so much space and it takes so much effort to clean and repair electronics from 30 years ago I don't think it would make much sense to get cabs for games that don't have an amazing replay value. Sure, Marble Madness is great but very short and sooner or later I would get bored of it. This also means light gun games are out, which is a shame.

The first two games I would get are not a surprise:

- Robotron

One of my favourite games of all time. I would kill to have a working cab.

- Pump it Up Cabinet

Actually pretty cheap for what it is and just getting it to conventions and doing tournaments can get some of that money back. I think more players should get together and buy their own machines because given the amount of money players spend on the game the investment would be recovered in a couple of months.

There's also an old version of the game that can be easily hacked to get more songs, so you don't even have to buy the latest version of the game to have fun.

Other games would not be a priority in comparison:

- Berzerk is amazing and the focus is very different to Robotron but I would rather get something far different at first.
- OutRun 2SP is a short game but man, do I love it. I really hope that since it's common one day someone dumps the board or whatever. OutRun and Turbo OutRun would also be cool and use the same hardware but alas, too expensive for what they would give me.
- Tetris TGM3 is very expensive but the first game isn't and being JAMMA it should be easy to make it work. A must for me.

There are other games I would love to have but those are the holy grails for me, what are yours? 8)

I'd go for a Simpsons arcade and maybe an MVS 6-slotter cab and call it a day. That should be pretty achievable. :)

I like the sound of this!

Other than that, maybe a custom 4 player cabinet. Basically something that would let me play everything from Captain America to Slammasters, and switch games/harnesses with button presses.

Your funny. I never get "paid" for my cabs, more of a labor of love.

I'm not the best person to answer the thread question since I have a 15 cabs in my garage currently. Some are ModMan and Dr.Cirno cabinets that I'm holding, so it's not like I'm a cab baller or something.

As for dream setup: I want Tron, Mr. Do and Super Cobra...maybe a Bride of Pinbot. Other than that, my goal is to have 15 Japanese candy cabs (I have 9 right now).

Haha, I know. But dunno, around here tournaments are really viable and if conventions were bigger, getting enough for a couple of replacements shouldn't be hard, I know several people who do this and keep a good community on a good machine. I doubt it applies to anything but the most popular musical games, tough.

I have heard Bride of Pinbot mentioned a lot. Since I don't know anything about pinballs, why is it so good?

Candy cabs are sexy tough I prefer the old wooden cabinets myself, they look more menacing

Dr Who Pinball
Twilight Zone Pinball
Indiana Jones Pinball
Ms Pacman - Bally
Galaga Cocktail - with speed chip
Spy Hunter environmental
Disc of Tron
Virtual On
Fzero AX - Master Cab
Several Candies
Hacked up VS candy cab for the CPS2 D&D games with two people on each side
And either 10 Battletech pods, or 6 Tmek pods - BT preferred.

Honestly, if out of all of those I only get a Candy and make my own BT pods, Ill be happy. I still have my Nintendo VS tent and my 4 slot MVS.

-Donkey Kong
-Donkey Kong Junior
-Avalanche
-Qix
-Robotron: 2084

And probably a pinball or two.

Shame that Qix is so rare though. I probably won't see an original cab for a long time, if ever.
