MAME Game of the Week Tournaments: Mario Bros.
Re: MAME Game of the Week Tournaments
I like the idea, Yoshi, but I feel like my game time is already "cannibalized" by a TR game and a shmup-of-the month game, so I don't know that I'll have room for this too

Yeah, Steve Wiebe talks about it a bit in King of Kong. I've been trying to see if I can do it like him to minimal success.General_Norris wrote:It's pseudo-random, so there are no hard patterns in the game. It's cool. As I see it, it's kind of an extension to TR that's more to have people learn and play the older arcade games.dsheinem wrote:I like the idea, Yoshi, but I feel like my game time is already "cannibalized" by a TR game and a shmup-of-the month game, so I don't know that I'll have room for this too
I've been working on learning how to get as many points as possible on these boards, so I'm losing a lot of lives and not really getting higher scores. However, I've gotten to the point where I can get over 7,000 points on the first barrel stage if I don't die!

I'll probably play along when you happen to pick games that aren't MAME-only. Like if I have the game on an arcade compilation.

The problem is that compilations and ports often will have emulation inaccuracies that could affect the way the score comes out. With MAME, everyone's kept on the same playing field.noiseredux wrote:I'll probably play along when you happen to pick games that aren't MAME-only. Like if I have the game on an arcade compilation.

I guess I won't be participating then.

Yay! This is the first time I ever cleared the first board! So pleased.
How come jumping a barrel doesn't always net me any points? Do I have to wait until they are a super close or something?

Sometimes if you're too far or too close to a barrel when you jump, it doesn't register. It's hella annoying, isn't it?

Why can't you just label which game you used? So:AppleQueso wrote:The problem is that compilations and ports often will have emulation inaccuracies that could affect the way the score comes out. Because then people will use whatever but have it lose that slight competitive edge. However slight.o.pwuaioc wrote: Why can't you just label which game you used? So:

Also that would be a pain in the ass for me to keep track of.
Also, it's the MAME Game of the Week Tournaments.
I think the only exception I'd make to this is if you played it on an actual arcade cab.

Competitive Donkey Kong sounds fun, I'm going to give it a shot later tonight.
