Anachronox

Post by RCBH928 »

So in my other thread I mentioned that I read The Masters of Doom, and the book mentions this game .

This game some how seems to be lost in History no one seems to remember it even thought it had good reviews and Romero worked on it. I wanted to know what you guys thought of the game? Is it worthwhile or what? Looks pretty retro to me goven our day and age

Plenty of people remember it, they just tend to stick to PC boards rather than console-centric retro ones. It's essentially a JRPG made by westerners.

Someone talks about it on GOG every once in awhile, usually in a "weirdest games ever" kind of thread. Someone made a thread about it today in fact. People think it will be the next GOG release now that they are working with Square-Eidos. The reasoning is because MODDB just saw uploads of the anachronox patch, demo, and modtools.

Here's the demo if you want to try it:

Here's a 3-page retrospective about the game over at The Escapist:

Oh JT, you better be right! I was just looking at this game again over the last few days, watching some videos and all. It was made by a lot of the staff that worked on Deus Ex I believe via Ion Storm, so that's a huge plus in my book (and I've been obsessed with Looking Glass again lately, loving Thief so much). Love the atmosphere and looks, though even if I'm a big JRPG fan, I'm not sure how I feel about the battle system at a glance, haha.

But yeah if it hits GoG I'm all over it.

I so wish Ion Storm and Looking Glass were still intact. I guess they're kind of about and maybe a lot of them are in 2K Games now (Bioshock), but man their stuff was incredible and unique.

I'd love to see Omikron come to GoG as well.

So... You're getting System Shock 2 asap, right?

Beat it. Loved it. Will replay it endlessly.

Glad I've got three Thief games to hit up. Even Deadly Shadows doesn't look too bad, although the engine scares me (having just replayed Invisible War last year, wow that engine is the worst). I hope Deadly Shadows was better optimized with bigger environments, or that's going to suck...

Oh man! I used to quote that all the time. Used to tick my mom off so bad.

Heh. I'm glad I'm not the only one that makes Willow references. Most people don't understand me, and that one's always awkward to have to explain.

I heard it needs 70 hours of gameplay, can it be that long?
