My little brother and I continued our road trip from Denver to Vegas this morning passing through the Rockies. Since the car is his and is manual, I couldn't drive it or else I would have for safety reasons. The boy used to be an avid fan of Gran Tourismo. His driving certainly shows. He always talk and brag when driving through curves, braking and accelerating at the apex and all that technical stuff. I don't mind when he talks about driving, but when he drives 80-90 mph on the side of a mountain with cliffs and stuffs, he is taking it a bit too far. The boy certainly has some thrill issues. He drives 85-90 mph constantly throughout the drive despite my telling him not to, for safety reasons and of course traffice tickets. At one point, we even reached 115 mph near Vegas during a straight away. I try to ignore him, hoping he would stop. However, I didn't want to continue showing my concerns and fear because that would only reinfore his action. Anyway, I am in Vegas now, all in one piece and with no ticket.
Anyway, anyone ever experience a "life imitating video game" or "video game imitating life" moment, whether personally or by someone else???

Life Imitating Video Games!!!
"You're just given the illusion that your decisions can actually make a difference when in the end all has been decided by the programmers." NebachadnezzaR
I was walking through this pretty run down part of East London last year and there was no one around. It's pretty built up but most of the buildings are falling apart.
Anyhoo.. there I am just walking along and I swear to God I heard the Half-Life 2 Strider 'moan' sound echo and rumble around the buildings. I nearly jumped into a door way (to load up my imaginary rocket launcher?), it was soooo close to the original sound. Good job nobody was around to see me freak out like that, quite embarrassing =/
I waited for a few minutes but nothing else happened... then I rushed to meet my friend.

A few games have had this effect on me.
After getting into the depths of any GTA game, I would walk out the door and have this impulse to just walk up the the nearest car, open it up, and drive off in it.
After each of the Halo phases, I would be real twitchy. Like if I heard a noise or saw something in my peripherial, I would snap to whatever direction ready to fire my imaginary battle rifle.

I draft cars on the motorways, reduces fuel consumption, especially if they have a spoiler, or something that is throwing air upwards. Driving behind them with nice clean air and no drag. It's awesome. Have to be alert though 'cos if you get too close they think you are tailgating them.

It's not really the same, but after an all nighter on BF1942, I went paintballing with friends. It was just like landing on Wake Island!

You are tailgating them. At 60 MPH there isn't much advantage this is gonna give you. Unless you're doing that stupid DFAS stuff (turning your car off behind them).Niode wrote:I draft cars on the motorways, reduces fuel consumption, especially if they have a spoiler, or something that is throwing air upwards. Anyways, yeah we'd do this as well in the truck all the time. But a caravan of tractor trailers at 60 or 70 can get a big boost from this and the person in front of you doesn't think you're tailgating, and we don't need to get that close.
I don't know if I've ever had a life imitating videogame experience I can remember. Nothing really jumps out and says "hey".
