This game and Asura's Wrath are the console games on my radar for this month. Very curious about Binary Domain and the Yakuza team's take on this genre. The whole trust system seems interesting, and from the footage I've seen of the game it looks neat how robots keep coming after you even if they're damaged.

Better charge up those headsets. Demo is supposed to drop tomorrow for the US on PSN.

Time to scold some teammates.

Played a little bit of the US demo tonight. Wow, I'm really impressed with the voice acting.

I want to like this game because I absolutely adore the Yakuza team but I just can't get into it. It's trying too hard to be Vanquish and just can't compete. Everything feels so bland, there's no cool gameplay features or anything like that, just run and shoot like every other TPS out there. It goes without saying that the story and presentation is going to be good, but the gameplay really isn't doing anything for me. I hope the Yakuza team doesn't continually shift in the direction they're going in. Feels like they're trying to cater to the mainstream more and more and really losing the touch with what makes their games so great.

I didn't get that it was trying to be Vanquish at all. Sure, it's a cover based TPS from a Japanese developer, but that's where the similarities end. The enemies are some of the most unique I've seen this gen. They just keep coming. You can blow all of their limbs off and they just don't give up. Or you can pop one in the head and he goes nuts attacking everything, even the other enemies. The other bots proceed to eliminate him before he can cause any more problems. The game is quicker than Gears, but aiming is more refined and the action is quicker.

The reputation and trust system combined with voice (or non-voice) commands is one of the most unique gameplay elements I've seen this gen. If you're a douche to your AI partners, your tactics fall apart. They will ignore your orders and leave you to take on the waves of enemies alone. The enemy AI is generally smart enough to exploit this, too. No longer are they story driven puppets who sprinkle the set pieces for effect. Sure BD's subject material is cyberpunk, which strikes a cord with me, but I can actually see myself buying this game for the single player campaign.

I very much disagree, especially about the part with the enemies.

There are tons of similarities. Setting is almost identical, enemies look the same, boss fights are both going for the same thing, etc. Now don't get me wrong I'm still going to give the game a shot, but it's definitely Vanquish inspired, which to be honest isn't necessarily a bad thing. Where the distinction is made for me is that Vanquish goes above and beyond just cover based TPS gameplay by implementing tons of cool attacks and different abilities with the suit to create something that FINALLY breaths fresh air into the beaten to death genre. When I was playing Binary Domain it just felt like every other TPS. Run around, hold attack button, run around, hold attack button.

The co-op stuff sounds interesting, I didn't experiment much with that. I'll give the demo another go though, perhaps I'm being too harsh.
