FINISHED!!! - Building More Arcade Sticks, Vol. 2!

Post by fvgazi »

Updates on Page 2
---------
I couldn't contain myself because I'm near completion, but I really wanted to post picture of my latest builds. I posted my first stick about a year and a half ago. I am now making 2 morePS3/360 sticks with custom artwork done by my friend. I ran into a bunch of problems which resulted in redesign of the housings, and my woodworking is still far from decent, which resulted in the following. If you look closely you can see the imperfections on the right housing, but the left turned out rather well (nothing a little sanding and wood putty can't fix).

These will be stained, shiny, and fully functional hopefully by Friday. THEN GET READY FOR SOME PS3 FIGHT NIGHTS AND 360 CAVE SHMUP(s)!

Those look like Seimitsus to me...

How are you connecting these to the consoles? I can't find Cthulhu boards anywhere.

Seimitsu Buttons.
Sanwa JLF Stick (seimitsu balltop)
Using the Sega Blast City button layout. (got the layout from slagcoin.com)
PCB is PaeWang 360/PS3 selectable via a "turbo button". I'll post more info when the sticks are done this week.

A great approach what looks like all wood with a Router Edge to round up the sides. Very Nice! Will the Arcade be multi purpose to work on the PS3, 360 and PC? Maybe a second stick added for Duel Stick games? It could be placed off to the side as to not interfere with Fighter type games.

Congrats and nice work fvgazi - i'm doing the same thing except I cheated and bought an aluminum panel to fit into the wood encasement.

I was a bit worried about thickness of wood over such a long area (2L12B layout) as the snapin's require a thin (1/4" or less) area to snap into. Wouldn't have mattered as I went w/what you chose as well, seimitsu screw-ins which allow a bit more leeway.

I accommodated the screw ins by routing out the button holes with a rabbeting bit. The MDF is 1/2" thick so I couldn't have screwed them in without doing so.

@CRT. This stick is just for fighter and shmups. I would incorporate extra sticks for a mame cab if I ever build one.

I'm actually interested in doing something like this. Does anyone have any links to get me started? It would be much appreciated.

There are a million and one threads on shoryuken that will walk you through the process.

You'll need some solder and fabrication skills for plastic and/or wood, unless you just wanted to mod a different stick.

Buttons and sticks can be found in many places, a friend turned me on to AKIHIBARA SHOP and their selection of arcade parts is top notch, well-priced and shipping is very manageable.

GOD LIKE CONTROLS has most of the pcb's and other bits (controller ports, etc) you'll need.
