Valve is investigating the outages, but right now the Steam client and steam related websites are all shut down. It's likely a new hacker attack.
I hope you guys are using SteamGuard and have different passwords on your Steam accounts than on the e-mail addresses you used to set up those accounts. You can't be too careful these days.
EDIT: Just a temporary power outage. Everything is fine now. Still, it's a good idea to have Steam Guard on after the earlier hacks in Steam.

Again? Isn't this like the 3rd time in 6 months? Valve needs to invest more in security...the frequency is a bit disconcerting.
Re: Steam is currently shut down
Is one still able to play single player games that use Steam when Steam is offline?

Well this sucks. I was planning to download a game off Steam later today.

Lol its kinda funny because ive had a Steam account since Half-Life 2 was released and i still know my password but i forgot my answer to my secret question, and the only way to reset my password now would be to contact steam/valve or whatever.

No Steam for me. It's really no surprise that this would happen with a system that requires you to be online whenever you want to play a game. No fun for the users

You don't have to be online whenever you want to play. There is an offline mode, and even if you move away from your net connection, you generally can still play your games. Even right now while the system is down, I still have access to games in my Steam account that I've already downloaded.Valkyrie-Favor wrote:No Steam for me. Doesn't do me any good for my situation. I've owned Stranger's Wrath for months now; I don't know why I waited until now to decide I want to play it,J T wrote:You don't have to be online whenever you want to play. Yeah, same. I have a lot of games not downloaded but purchased. I can't play them now... :/
Indeed. This is getting Sony ridiculous.dsheinem wrote:Again? Isn't this like the 3rd time in 6 months? Valve needs to invest more in security...the frequency is a bit disconcerting.
