Because I have GW1 for DC and I know GW2 is gonna be crazy hard to find/expensive on Ebaydsheinem wrote:I don't understand why anyone would vote for GW1 over GW2. GW2 is SO much better in every way!

Re: Shmup of the Month Club (AXELAY) (Now voting on Takumi)
Back to the business at hand, I see everyone is trying their hardest at this game, so I'll open the seal for Corridor No. 4.
(sorry, TGL reference)
But seriously, I put together a few helpful Axelay videos. Since I can't embed these directly into the post due to forum restrictions, I will link each one.
Video 1: Avoiding those dang rock formation in stage 1
Watch as I move ALONGSIDE them (and lose my Macro Missiles trying for more points)
Video 2: Stage 3 boss
Not so bad, just remember to avoid all explosions, and in the orange form, blue lights appear where lasers fire and gold circles appear where missiles come out.
Video 3: Stage 4 boss
First of all, GET DOWN (as I say) to the bottom of the screen to avoid the avalanche. Also, shooting the green spot in front will get the weak point to come out faster! Notice how I use the Round Vulcan to achieve both tasks at once.
Video 4: Stage 5 boss (spoiler!)
Nobody has probably reached Stage 5, but if you want to see me take on the graphically impressive boss there (done in a classic Treasure style) then be sure to watch this video. Notice if you can get here, how high my score is at this point.
On this run, I ended in the mid 500k range, since I finished halfway through Stage 6. Enjoy!

T'was a joke, seeing as the games are both sequels to Toaplan shooters, and that Toaplan had already had them in development when those particular members formed Takumi.brunoafh wrote:No they aren't.dunpeal2064 wrote:Twin Cobra II

Figured it would be funny, since I've been correcting things all month, but I guess we are in the srs busniss now

In every way? I don't see how. In GW2, your goal is to get a certain amount of items on screen at once, causing a flood of gems that is always in huge amounts, and you are supposed to aim the way they flood so that you can grab as many as possible.dsheinem wrote:I don't understand why anyone would vote for GW1 over GW2. In the first game, you are just reflecting as many bulets as possible, and grabbinb the rewards. I far prefer this to GW2, as in 2, whether I do half decent or really well in a specific reflect, I will still get that flood. In GW1, I can really tell when I am improving.
Come On!
Re: Shmup of the Month Club (AXELAY) (Now voting on Takumi)
So how are those Axelay scores & experiences coming along?
Yeah, just what I thought -- put down the other shmups and get back to this one people! I will most likely attempt another run in the next few days, other RB distractions/score charts be damned!
The one guy said it best in the Rayforce thread -- switching out your shmups every so often helps you to get better!
Anyways, went to the real arcade dealie again today -- not gonna do another crazy pic blitz, just 2 good scores this time.

Juno First -- 230,340 -- Wave 12

Gun.Smoke -- 97,050 -- Stage 3
Ok, now back to Axelay. I mean, Rayforce. I mean, Battle Garegga. I mean, Soul Calibur. I mean, Donkey Kong.
(never a dull moment on Racketboy)

My votes:
Mars Matrix +3
Giga Wing +2
Giga Wing Generations +1
Final standings:
+17 Mars Matrix
+12 Giga Wing
+7 Giga Wing 2
+4 Giga Wing Generations
+3 Night Raid
+3 Kyuukyouku Tiger II PLUS
+2 Twin Cobra II
Mars Matrix it is, annnd that finally closes out this years votes. Here's the final schedule:
January: Toaplan - Truxton
February: Konami - Axelay
March: Psikyo - Dragon Blaze
April: Compile - Zanac X Zanac (Zanac Neo)
May: Raizing - Great Mahou Daisakusen
June: Taito - Metal Black
July: Treasure - Radiant Silvergun
August: Month off due to annual shmups.org competition
September: Irem - X-Multiply
October: Capcom - ExedExes
November: Takumi - Mars Matrix
December: Cave - DoDonPachi (for Together Retro)
As for Axelay... I'll give it some more time but it's not really my thing. The hori levels are pretty good but I'm not feeling this one.

My bad. Guess that one went right over my head, sometimes I'm a dense one.dunpeal2064 wrote:T'was a joke, seeing as the games are both sequels to Toaplan shooters, and that Toaplan had already had them in development when those particular members formed Takumi.

Yeah, me too - I want to try it some more but I've spent a couple of hours with it and I just can't get into itbrunoafh wrote:As for Axelay... I'll give it some more time but it's not really my thing. The hori levels are pretty good but I'm not feeling this one.
Also...I tired ExedExes the other day and...why don't the bullets go all the way to the top of the screen?!
